STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS (Round 1)

  • Ty Dellandrea’s goal late in the second period snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted the visiting Dallas Stars to a 4-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday. Evgenii Dadonov, Wyatt Johnston and Roope Hintz also scored for the Stars, who tied the best-of-seven series at two games apiece. Michael Amadio and Jack Eichel scored for the Golden Knights, who won the first two games in Dallas, and then lost two straight at home.
  • The Florida Panthers will be Florida’s team in the next round of the NHL playoffs. Aleksander Barkov and Carter Verhaeghe each scored twice as the Panthers beat the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning 6-1 on Monday to win that first-round, best-of-seven Sunshine State series in five games. Victor Hedman scored for the Lightning, who had one goal disallowed and one overturned.
  • The NHL playoffs continue tonight with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets both on the brink of elimination. The Leafs are in Boston, trailing 3-1 in their best-of-season Eastern Conference series. The Jets, meanwhile, are at home to Colorado with the Avalanche holding a 3-1 series lead.

    The Vancouver Canucks can advance to Round 2 of the NHL playoffs with a win over the visiting Nashville Predators. The Canucks took a 3-1 series lead on Sunday with a 4-3 come-from-behind overtime victory. The Edmonton Oilers, who are up 3-1 on Los Angeles in their series, will play Game 5 tomorrow.

MLB

  • Justin Turner had a two-run homer in the first inning and added a solo shot in the third and the Toronto Blue Jays edged the visiting Kansas City Royals 6-5 on Monday. Danny Jansen also had a home run as Toronto won back-to-back games and improved to 15-and-15. Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Junior drove in runs with base hits. The Royals have dropped three consecutive games and will try to snap that skid when they face the Jays on Tuesday in the second game of a four-game series.

NBA

  • Canadian guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander  and Jalen Williams each scored 24 points as the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 97-89 to sweep their first-round, best-of-seven NBA series. C-J McCollum had 20 points for the Pelicans, while Jonas Valanciunas chipped in with 19.
  • Canadian guard Jamal Murray scored 32 points and Michael Porter Junior added 26 as the Denver Nuggets edged the Los Angeles Lakers 108-106 on Monday to win their first-round, best-of-seven series 4-1. LeBron James led the Lakers with 30 points and 11 assists, while Austin Reaves scored 19.
  • Derrick White scored 38 points and Jayson Tatum added 20 as the visiting Boston Celtics beat the Miami Heat 102-88 on Monday to take a 3-1 lead in their first-round, best-of-seven NBA series. Bam Adebayo led the Heat with 25 points and 17 rebounds. Tyler Herro added 19 points for Miami.
