Tuesday’s show was Episode #17 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights:

  • The program was filled with Rider Alumni as Rod and Darren were joined by Marshall Hamilton as well as Hall of Famers Jim Hopson, Eddie Davis and Roger Brandvold.
  • Hopson stressed that it’s still very early in the season and there’s no need to panic with the Riders’ 0-2 start. He mentioned that it’s a new regime and QB Zach Collaros was lost on series #1. The team showed positive signs in its losses in Hamilton and Ottawa and now they’ve had time to regroup before Monday’s home-opener versus Toronto.
  • Eddie Davis said sophomore CB Nick Marshall needs to have a short memory after being picked on in the Ottawa game. He feels Marshall is at that spot for a reason and simply needs to show why. He also said the team which makes the fewest makes always wins, and that’s what the Riders need to strive for.
  • Eddie said too that although fans may be nervous over the team’s 0-2 start, the pressure isn’t being felt in the locker room yet. He said the two Eastern games to open the season were a big challenge and the team will benefit from the early adversity it’s faced.
  • Brandvold was on the CFL’s TV committee when the current deal with TSN was struck and said it’s unlikely the league regrets going with only one network, creating a monopoly. He said, however, that other networks may show interest when this deal is up in three years.
  • Former Regina Pats forward and pro hockey player Ryan Phillips is biking across Canada to raise awareness for Mental Health and Recovery. He paid a visit to the bunker to discuss his own story and why it’s important for people who are struggling to reach out for help. There’s no shame in doing that.
