WEDNESDAY CAT COUNTRY COMMENTARY – GATHERIN’ GRAINS
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)
IT LOOKS LIKE WE’RE GOING TO GET SOME HOCKEY IN THESE PARTS AFTER ALL.
WEYBURN RED WINGS HEAD COACH AND G-M RICH PILON WAS IN STUDIO ON THE ROD PEDERSEN SHOW TUESDAY MORNING. HE WAS ON HIS WAY TO WEYBURN, GETTING SET TO OPEN TRAINING CAMP.
THE LONG-TIME NEW YORK ISLANDER AND RANGER EXPLAINED THAT SJHL TEAMS ARE OPENING WHAT’S CALLED “EXTENDED TRAINING CAMPS” BECAUSE THE REGULAR SEASON IS STILL UP IN THE AIR.
HOWEVER THE MANITOBA JUNIOR LEAGUE HAS DECLARED AN OCTOBER 9TH START DATE AND SJHL PRESIDENT BILL CHOW ANNOUNCED THE SAME DATE ON OUR SHOW A FEW WEEKS BACK. *(ALTHOUGH HE’S BACKTRACKED ON THAT SOMEWHAT SINCE).
EITHER WAY, JUNIOR A TEAMS IN THIS PROVINCE ARE GATHERING PLAYERS IN THEIR CENTRES AND WILL BE HITTING THE ICE SOON.
PILON SAID HIS BIGGEST CHALLENGE WILL BE KEEPING HIS PLAYERS INTERESTED, BECAUSE THEY’LL BE LOOKING AT NEARLY A MONTH STRAIGHT OF PRACTICE WITH NO GAMES. HOWEVER HE FEELS IT’S DOABLE AND AFTER SIX MONTHS OF SITTING AROUND, IT’S A SMALL PRICE FOR THE PLAYERS TO PAY.
THE WINGS ALSO ANNOUNCED A UNIQUE FUNDRAISER CALLED “GATHERIN’ GRAINS FOR THE WINGS!” PRODUCERS HAULING TO P&H, VITERRA OR RICHARDSON PIONEER HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DONATE GRAIN TO THE WINGS.
THOSE TERMINALS KNOW BETTER THAN ANYONE HOW TO TURN THAT GRAIN INTO CASH TO HELP THE WINGS.
AND WE ALL WANT TO SEE SOME HOCKEY.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
