WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – CRY WOLF

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)

I feel like Wednesdays are for random thoughts, so here we go:

#1 – It’s now August and if I’ve read the country’s temperature correctly, the Blue Jays are the hottest thing on people’s minds.

How lucky are they that they’re on TV everyday?

Trouble is, this 4-game midweek series against division-leading Baltimore has been a disaster; losing the first two games against the O’s, including a 13-3 drubbing on Tuesday night.

That’s dropped them 7 ½ off the pace, and their wildcard lead has dwindled to just a game and a half over the Red Sox.

Right now, the Jays don’t appear to be in the same class as Baltimore but there’s lots of baseball left.

#2 – I miss hockey.

But don’t despair … as my good friend Lorne Molleken always says, as soon as Buffalo Days (Regina’s fair) is over, it’s hockey season.

That’s for the hockey people, whom will leave the lake and head into the rinks and the players will step up their training a notch.

But for us fans, it’s still a long ways off. However that doesn’t keep us from talking hockey everyday, and we’ll have Kelly Hrudey live on the RP Show down at Century Downs Racetrack & Casino today.

Come on down and meet him if you have the chance!

I’m also keenly interested in the fortunes of Connor Bedard with the Chicago Blackhawks and I predict you’ll see plenty of Hawks gear on the streets of the Queen City this winter.

And #3 – Two/thirds of the CFL season are left and there are plenty of storylines. The winless Elks, the unbeaten Argos, the Sask quarterback controversy, the various injuries to league great Bo Levi Mitchell, and now the latest game of “Will They Or Won’t They?” surrounding the Atlantic Schooners.

I got word coming out of Touchdown Atlantic that the league is poised to announce a 10th team this winter, which will play out of a temporary stadium.

But let me also tell you the story about a boy who cried wolf.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, YouTube Live & Podcast)
