WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – EASY MONEY
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)
IT WAS THE ULTIMATE INSULT.
THE BALTIMORE RAVENS HUMILIATED MY DALLAS COWBOYS 34-17 TUESDAY NIGHT AND ON BALTIMORE’S BACK-BREAKING TOUCHDOWN LATE IN THE GAME, AN OFFENSIVE LINEMAN LOOKED RIGHT IN THE CAMERA AND YELLED “EASY MONEY”.
FOR THOSE NOT ACQUAINTED, THAT MEANS SCORING TOUCHDOWNS AGAINST THE DALLAS COWBOYS IS LIKE TAKING CANDY FROM A BABY.
I KNEW DALLAS WAS GOING TO LOSE AND HAD BEEN SAYING IT FOR DAYS ON GAME+ TV’S ROD PEDERSEN SHOW. FRIENDS AND VIEWERS WERE SENDING ME MESSAGES SAYING “CHEER UP” OR “THEY’VE STILL GOT A CHANCE”.
NO THEY DON’T.
AND ALTHOUGH I SAID MONTHS AGO ON THIS COMMENTARY THAT THE COWBOYS SEASON ENDED IN THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF THE SEASON, TODAY I WANT TO POINT OUT HOW I KNEW.
YOU CAN ALMOST – WITHOUT EXCEPTION – PICK OUT WHERE A TEAM’S SEASON CAME APART, OR CAME TOGETHER.
IT MAY BE AN INJURY TO A STAR PLAYER, OR A BEHIND-THE-SCENES MOMENT WHERE THE G-M DIDN’T BACK THE COACH AND THE COACH LOST CONFIDENCE IN THE ROOM. MAYBE IT WAS A FIGHT ON THE ICE OR FIELD, OR IN PRACTICE. MAYBE IT WAS A COACHING BLUNDER OR TWO, WHICH HAPPENED TO THE COWBOYS, AND THE PLAYERS LOST FAITH IN THEIR BOSS.
THE 2013 ROUGHRIDERS CAME TOGETHER, I’M TOLD, WHEN RICKY FOLEY FLIPPED OVER A TABLE IN THE BC PLACE VISITORS LOCKER ROOM JUST BEFORE THE GREEN GUYS WENT OUT AND SPANKED THE LIONS TO SNAP A 4-GAME LOSING STREAK IN LATE-SEPTEMBER. RICKY’S MESSAGE WAS “ENOUGH’S ENOUGH”, AND EVERYONE FELL IN LINE.
CONSIDER THIS: I BROADCAST 20 SEASONS IN THE CFL AND 17 IN THE WHL. THAT’S 37 SEASONS OF WATCHING AND BEING A PART OF WHAT GOES ON.
AND NOW YOU KNOW WHY I’M HAPPIEST NOW TO JUST SIT BACK AND WATCH.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
