It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday on the Commentary! Let’s go …
#1 – Who saw that coming? The Vegas Golden Knights erupted for a 5-4 victory in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final Tuesday night at Carolina, and are now just three wins away from their second Cup in franchise history.
#2 – Prior to Game 1, I was on 806 Sports Radio in Amarillo, TX with the host, my good friend Kenny Nagunst. I told them to expect a low-scoring series, and Kenny went out and bet the under. He texted me last night to say, “Thanks a lot!” Hey – I never said to come to me for betting advice.
#3 – Some are calling it the greatest hockey game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs! Unfortunately I never saw a single shift of it cuz I was broadcasting baseball at Ross Wells Park in Moose Jaw (an 8-1 Weyburn Beavers victory).
#4 – Part of the reason we didn’t have the game on in the press box – we usually have over the years – is because you’ve gotta pay to stream it on Sportsnet and nobody was willing to shell out the dough. Including me. People are saying “Enough’s enough”. We’ll find out what that means in a year for the CFL when their new broadcast deal kicks in.
#5 – It’s a very big day. As part of CKRM Radio’s 100-year birthday celebrations, today the station is naming me one of their nine icons from the past century. The whole process will culminate in a gala July 18 at the Centre of the Arts. Thank you CKRM! It’s been hard not saying anything, cuz I’ve known about it for months. It’s a huge honour from the station I grew up listening to.
And #6 – Tuesday marked the 8-year birthday of the Rod Pedersen Show, as we’ve amassed almost 1,800 episodes of that particular talkshow on various channels and digital platforms.
Time marches on folks! Time marches on.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
