Wednesdays are for random thoughts on this Commentary and we all love those! Here we go:

#1 – It was quite a night of hockey. The Florida Panthers won a biggie – 3-2 in overtime over the NY Rangers – to tie up the Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Final at 2-2.

We said we’d find out what the Panthers were made of last night, and I had a feeling they were made of a lot.

Now it’s a best-of-three.

Meanwhile here in Moose Jaw, tons of Warriors fans gathered at the Events Centre to watch The Tribe in a do-or-die game at the Memorial Cup.

And this Warriors team never does it the easy way. They built up a 3-0 lead on Drummondville, then saw it tied 3-3 in the third, before scoring a shorthanded goal with a minute to go to eventually win it.

Whew!

Now they’re on to the semifinal Friday night. Join us for another Watch Party.

#2 – As if Saskatoon didn’t dislike Regina enough already. The WCBL’s Saskatoon Berries are 0-3 in their expansion season and all three losses have come against the Regina Red Sox including an 8-4 defeat Tuesday night in the home-opener at Cairns Field.

The season isn’t even a week old and the Saskatoon team is already in a jam!

And #3 – It’s a dream liftoff to Year 6 of the Canadian Elite Basketball League season. Cities are battling to one-up each other for the league attendance record, which was set last year in Winnipeg, and topped already this season in Calgary.

Thursday night the Saskatchewan Rattlers host the Edmonton Stingers and wouldn’t ya know it, SaskTel Centre has enough room to set a new record.

Hope to see you there!

The Rattlers need to up their game when it comes to game presentation. I watched the Rattlers/Sea Bears game on Game+ and SaskTel Centre looked like a community college. Their staff need to watch game tapes from the Saddledome and Canada Life Centre to see how it should be done

Saskatoon won’t be in a “jam” for long. They are already one of the league’s top programs and likely have some division 1 talent that is finishing their school seasons. They have the best baseball mind on the prairies in Joe Carnahan and a former major leaguer with Andrew Albers running the show. They’re stumbling out of the gate, but will be in the championship discussion despite being 0-5.
