TUESDAY RUNDOWN: ODR’S, HOCKEY & BLUE JAYS!

Some surprising topics came up on Episode #371 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – plus more of the usual great fun! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Shinny has been in outlawed in Saskatoon, and OutDoor Rinks unkempt in Alberta. Why? 2) The Seahawks outlast the Eagles 23-17 on Monday Night Football, 3) The Ravens/Steelers game has been moved again, this time to Wednesday at 3:40 pm ET, 4) The Evander Kane/Reaves Brothers Twitter feed (RP feels the NHL can’t be pleased with it), 5) The QMJHL and SJHL announce they’ve shuttered till the New Year, and John Shannon reports the WHL will be moved back till February, and 6) Discussions are emerging on a new NHL start date and Pierre LeBrun predicts it will be mid-January. **Bonus points were MLB planning to start their own minor league and the Pats losing 7-2 to Rouyn-Noranda in Round 1 of the CHL’s E-Memorial Cup.
  • The Outdoor Hockey discussion stretched far and wide and viewers started sending in pics of their outdoor rinks from across the prairies. The photo at the top of this page came from White Bear. RP surmised the ban isn’t as much about virus transmission as it is about liability. Like everything else in sports.
  • Seattle-based hockey agent Ryan Minkoff joined the show from the Emerald City to discuss pandemic hockey life in the Pacific Northwest, his own NCAA and European career, his new book Thin Ice and offered tips for young hockey players dealing with the pause on their careers.
  • Things really picked up when the Voice of the MJHL’s Dauphin Kings Darnell Duff joined the show to offer a Manitoba hockey perspective. He recapped the MJHL’s timeline from the start of training camps to the current hiatus, and said Kings coach Doug Hedley is optimistic they’ll return to play in the New Year. Darnell said he’s in favour of the WHL/Junior A player transfers because it significantly raised the level of play, and perhaps some good habits will rub off on the Kings. It was a great all-around hockey chat.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will the Memorial Cup be played in 2021? At press time, 60% of respondents said no.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and after re-upping the Quick Six, we were joined by longtime Blue Jays sideline reporter Barry Davis, who now hosts the Outta The Park Podcast. Barry said the rumours of replacing Rogers Centre have been around for years and predicts it won’t even happen for a minimum 6-7 years. Davis called Fenway Park a “dump” which drew the ire of Red Sox fans, and he was forced to explain his comments! Barry said the highlight of his career was being on the sideline for the infamous Jose Bautista bat-flip in 2015, and that being the Jays sideline guy fulfilled a lifelong dream. Davis stayed for two segments, and it was a very entertaining visit!
  • Darnell Duff was named the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions by acclimation.
