WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)
EVENTUALLY EVERYONE’S GOING TO KNOW THE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA. FOR NOW, IT’S JUST A SELECT FEW.
WE USED TO CALL IT “THE POWER OF THE MEDIA”, BUT THE GAME HAS CHANGED.
TUESDAY NIGHT I WAS ENJOYING THE OPENING NIGHT OF THE NBA SEASON, WATCHING STEVE NASH’S BROOKLYN NETS LAY A WHOOPING ON STEPH CURRIE’S GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS, WHEN I STUMBLED ACROSS SOMETHING ON TWITTER.
SOMEONE HAD POINTED OUT TSN WAS TELEVISING A WORLD JUNIORS PRE-TOURNAMENT GAME BETWEEN FINLAND AND THE USA FROM EDMONTON.
WAS THIS RIGHT? IT SEEMED LESS THAN A WEEK AGO THAT I SWEAR I RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION ON MY PHONE THAT ALL WORLD JUNIOR EXHIBITION GAMES HAD BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO COVID?
BEWARE OF FAKE NEWS.
I SHOT A TEXT TO THE GUY WHO MENTIONED TUESDAY NIGHT’S GAME AND HE SAID YES, IT’S BEEN DECIDED THAT EACH WORLD JUNIOR TEAM WILL GET ONE EXHIBITION GAME.
HOW IN THE WORLD DID I MISS THAT? IT MUST’VE BEEN ANNOUNCED WHEN I TURNED MY PHONE OFF FOR A NAP!
WELP, I REACHED FOR THE REMOTE CONTROL AND IT WAS “SO LONG NBA!”
I TUNED IN AND SURE ENOUGH, THERE WAS GORD MILLER CALLING USA’S 3-2 WIN OVER FINLAND. CANADA FACES RUSSIA WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN A BATTLE OF PRE-TOURNAMENT FAVOURITES, AND YOU CAN BET YOUR RAY FERARRO THAT IT’LL BE ON TELEVISION TOO.
CHRISTMAS HAS COME EARLY, BECAUSE THE NBA WASN’T CUTTING IT.
JUST MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATIONS AND MENTIONS.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
