WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – SUMMER ICE

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE CFL’S TIME, BUT HOCKEY JUST WON’T GO AWAY.

I’M OKAY WITH IT!

WITH CFL TRAINING CAMPS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC, THERE ISN’T AS MUCH BUZZ AS NORMAL BUT THAT’S OKAY. THINGS WILL DEFINITELY RAMP UP JUST BEFORE THE AUGUST 5 KICKOFF (AUGUST 6 HERE IN SASKATCHEWAN).

MEANWHILE HOCKEY NEWS EXPLODED ACROSS THE CONTINENT THIS WEEK WITH THE EDMONTON OILERS ACQUIRING 3-TIME STANLEY CUP CHAMP DUNCAN KEITH FROM CHICAGO, THE MONTREAL CANADIENS REMOVING THE INTERIM TAG FROM COACH DOMINIQUE DUCHARME, THE MINNESOTA WILD BUYING OUT VETERANS ZACH PARISE AND RYAN SUTER, AND NASHVILLE GOALIE PEKKA RINNE ANNOUNCING HIS RETIREMENT.

THAT’S A BUFFET TO DISSECT!

BUT IT’S THE HOCKEY OFF-SEASON – AREN’T YOU SUPPOSED TO TAKE A BREATHER AND HEAD TO THE LAKE OR THE GOLF COURSE?

NOT THE NHL.

AND DON’T FORGET THE SEATTLE EXPANSION DRAFT IS COMING UP NEXT WEEK, WITH THE ANNUAL ENTRY DRAFT JUST A COUPLE DAYS LATER. THE EXPANSION KRAKEN ARE GOING TO FINALLY HAVE PLAYERS!

ALSO THIS WEEK IN THE WHL, TWO COACHES STEPPED DOWN IN THE FORM OF MITCH LOVE IN SASKATOON AND KELLY BUCHBERGER IN TRI-CITY TO TAKE OPPORTUNITIES ELSEWHERE.

WE’VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISSECT ALL OF THIS NEWS DAILY ON THE ROD PEDERSEN SHOW ON GAME+ TV, AND YOUTUBE & FACEBOOK LIVE. (LIVE DAILY AT 10 AM SASK TIME)

FOR 20 YEARS AS VOICE OF THE RIDERS, I TOOK MY EYE OFF THE PUCK IN JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST AND ADJUSTED MY GREEN GLASSES TO PROVIDE WALL-TO-WALL COVERAGE. THERE TRULY WASN’T ROOM FOR ANYTHING ELSE IN MY LIFE BESIDES THE SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS.

THREE YEARS INTO THIS NEW ROLE, I’VE DISCOVERED THE VIEW IS AMAZING. WITH A LOT OF ICE.
