WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: A FOOTBALL SHOW!

Football’s big in the news these days and we covered it all on Episode #305 of The RP Show, Canada’s daytime sports talk show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes covered these Quick Six show topics in The Rollout for Flooring Superstores: 1) Game 2 was a letdown for Golden Knights fans as Vancouver downed Vegas 5-2 but the best game was Tampa’s 4-3 OT win over Boston, 2) The Raptors are considering boycotting Game 1 of the Boston series as part of the Black Lives Matter movement, 3) Lucas Giolito of the White Sox throws MLB’s first no-hitter of the season, 4) The Blue Jays are .500 again after losing to the Red Sox, 5) Jon Ryan opts out of his Rider contract. Are these opt-outs a bad sign for the CFL?, and 6) Rod is meeting with the government on Wednesday. Should he dress up for the occasion?
  • CFL great Nik Lewis dropped into the bunker for the rest of Hour 1 on Game+ TV. He doesn’t feel the Raptors should boycott the game but he obviously supports the BLM movement. He told stories of incidents with police where he was profiled. Rod said police officers have contacted him to express their sentiment that “we’re not all bad guys”. The host supports both sides and said it’s such a touchy matter. Nik got into the CFL discussion and feels central ownership may be the way to go. He also unveiled his Atlantic Legends roster featuring CFL greats and current free agents which would give current CFL teams a run for their money.
  • Blue Bombers great Troy Westwood of TSN 1290 Winnipeg joined the show and felt the Raptors SHOULD boycott the game because the BLM movement is making a difference. He also feels that US voters can make the biggest difference by forcing a change in government at election time. They got into the CFL situation and Troy felt a season should’ve been salvaged. A choppy internet connection cut the interview short.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by Argos receiver Natey Adjei. He said he was prepared for a season cancellation but many of his teammates were not, so he’s offering support at this time. Natey talked about his off-field interests including the All Ball Podcast and how much fun it is being in the media. He also talked about the importance of having GTA players on the Argos roster, and said he supports Rod’s idea of a CFL All Stars Hip Hop album with proceeds going to the CFLPA.
  • Former Alouettes and Roughriders safety Marc-Olivier Brouillette joined the show from Montreal to talk about his candidacy for the CFL Commissioner job. Rod advised that the position is not currently vacant. “Marc-O” talked about the season cancellation, expressed his fondness for former Alouettes owner Bob Wetenhall and predicted what may be next for the CFL.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should the Raptors boycott Game 1 against the Celtics? At press time, about 60% of voters said no.
  • Viewers voted for Saskatchewan/Edmonton as Canada’s Game of the Week in CFL SIM which means we’ll be broadcasting the computer-simulated game on the RP Show Facebook channel.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Nik Lewis was leading. Tuesday’s vote was won by Gary Lawless.
  • See you at 10 am MT on Thursday on Game+ TV Network, Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!
