WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: CALGARY SPORTS, NFL & MORE!
We were back on the road for Episode #566 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – on Wednesday from Calgary! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont were live from the Best Western Premier Calgary Airport Inn and got it going with these Quick Six show topics: 1) Calgary sports – what’s up with the Stamps, Bo Levi and the Flames?, 2) Week 6 CFL game preview, 3) Week 6 CFL odds courtesy BetRegal.net – Hamilton favoured by 3.5 at Toronto, Winnipeg favoured by 2.5 at home to Saskatchewan, Edmonton favoured by 1.0 at home to Calgary and BC favoured by 6.5 at home against Ottawa, 4) The Senators extend GM Pierre Dorion, 5) The Blue Jays have won 6 in a row!, and 6) Canada’s gone gaga over tennis and the young Canadian stars at the U.S. Open.
- Calgary Sun Stampeders & Flames beat writer Danny Austin joined the show live at the Best Western Premier Inn and he and Rod laughed over their Twitter spat a few weeks ago. The pair’s been colleagues and friends for a long time and said it was easy to get over. Danny said the Stampeders’ 1-4 record goes beyond the injury to Bo Levi Mitchell, and that the team has lost a lot of star players to the NFL and CFL free agency over the past few years. Regarding the Flames, Danny was surprised they missed the playoffs last year and feels the outlook isn’t any better for this upcoming season.
- The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 6 of the CFL? At press time the Banjo Bowl was leading with over 70% of the vote.
In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for CORR Grain Rod talked about burying the hatchet with Bo Levi since he’s not the “Rider guy” anymore, and other Calgary sports items. The NLL’s Calgary Roughnecks announced Wednesday morning they’re getting new turf, sponsored by WestJet.- Canada’s foremost NFL expert Jim Lang joined the show to tee up Week 1 in the NFL and Thursday’s opener between the Cowboys and Buccaneers in Tampa Bay. Jim has no problem with the Bucs topping NFL power rankings since they’re defending champions but feels his Las Vegas Raiders are rated ridiculously low at #24 by USA Today. The guys previewed the other tantalizing Week 1 match-ups.
