IMG_3561

We kept on moving with the latest Canadian sports news on Episode #418 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – on Wednesday! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Day 1 CFL Free Agency recap, 2) Tuesday NHL leftovers and the Patrik Laine benching in Columbus, 3) Saskatchewan’s top doctor, Dr. Shahab, confirms the WHL’s bubble concept, 4) Dak Prescott is left out of the Cowboys 2021 team hype video, 5) Where will Cam Judge sign?, and 6) More on the Bell/TSN layoffs.
  • Sportsnet Winnipeg’s Sean Reynolds joined the show and confirmed that he indeed has lost weight; 40 lbs during the pandemic. He discussed the Jets’ 4-3 loss at Calgary Tuesday night and admitted that the teams are very close in terms of competitiveness. Regarding Pierre-Luc Dubois going 0-0-1, -1 in his Jets debut, Reynolds said expectations weren’t high since it was his first game. Regarding the Laine benching, Sean said it came as a surprise to him because he never knew Patrik to chirp at coaches in his time in Winnipeg.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will last longer with the Blue Jackets – John Tortorella or Patrik Laine? At press time, 60% said Laine.
  • In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and viewers asked Rod for his most-impressive free agent signing so far? He mentioned James Wilder Jr. signing with Edmonton and said if people thought Day 1 was boring, they should check their pulse.
  • Toronto Argonauts Assistant GM John Murphy joined the show from New Orleans to discuss free agency. He said the Argos got the bulk of their work done last week, but are still active. Regarding the status of free agent Cam Judge, Murph said the Canadian linebacker is still holding out hope for an NFL contract thus the delay. Argo fan viewers were concerned about the Toronto QB situation but John said there’s still plenty of time left before training camp. He compared it to the situation in Saskatchewan in 2017 when the team dealt Darian Durant to Montreal in the off-season. The team wound up signing Kevin Glenn before camp and KG took the Riders to the East Division Final via the crossover.
  • Free agent WR Ricky Collins Jr. joined the show from Texas. The former Rider, Lion and Eskimo said he’s still waiting for the right offer and wants to “be respected and wanted”. Rod quipped that he shouldn’t hold his breath, and Collins laughed. The TX A&M Commerce product reflected on being a rookie with the 2016 Roughriders and said he’s proud of his CFL career so far. He said the RP Show will be the first to know where he signs because “You’re my guy Rod!”
  • RP and Dupes Faced Off for UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant on the Laine/Tortorella situation and their tenures in Ohio. Darren thinks Laine will last longer while Rod disagreed however he noted that Torts can’t keep having blow-ups with players.
