WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: COSENTINO, MUYRES & MORE!

IMG_5190

It was a hump day on Episode #463 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Tuesday NHL leftovers – Tanner Jeannot scores his first NHL goal, Rittich loses his Leafs debut & more), 2) Will the CFL play in 2021? The hosts pegged it at 50/50, 3) The Pats fall 4-2 to P.A. and are 0-2 without Connor Bedard, 4) The Blue Jays beat the Yankees 7-3 but are still without George Springer, 5) Is boycotting MLSE even possible? (the hosts say no), and 6) NFL players are planning to boycott OTA’s this spring.
  • Sportsnet CHL analyst Sam Cosentino joined the show and discussed the career of Connor Bedard. He’s eagerly anticipating the U18 tournament in Frisco, TX. Regarding the cancellation of the 2021 Memorial Cup, Sammy agreed with Rod that it’s not huge breaking news because the tournament would’ve been impossible to pull off this spring. Sam revealed that a host city hadn’t even been named. Cosentino began his sports career as a locker room attendant with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1987 and identifies himself as a baseball guy FIRST. Sammy compared this Blue Jays era to the late 1990’s with young stars and said they’re very exciting to watch. He also agreed with Rod that the Jays could be in first place in the AL East if George Springer was playing.
  • The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who should be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame NEXT year – Kent Austin, Dwayne Mandrusiak, Jim Popp or Joe Zuger? At press time, Kent Austin was leading by a mile.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff we talked a lot of football and if the CFL’s chances to play are indeed a Hail Mary, RP asked the viewers what are the analytics on Hail Marys being completed? Jason in Red Deer and Nelson in Regina were the first to report the completion percentage is 8.3%.
  • Next up we were joined by Team Dunstone second Kirk Muyres from the Calgary curling bubble where they’re set to open the Grand Slam on Thursday. Kirk talked about all aspects of living in the bubble, comprehensive testing, losing out to Team Bottcher in the Brier semifinal, previewed the field of this week’s Grand Slam and discussed winning Ram’s 1 v 1 competition on TSN for 10 straight days.
  • Near the end of the show the guys were alerted to comments by former Dolphins LB Channing Crowder on the Pat McAfee show that minor pro football leagues don’t work and shouldn’t even be attempted. RP went on a mic drop rant for Bronco Plumbing & Heating pushing back against Crowder’s remarks saying it’s incredibly selfish of him and not everybody can go directly to the big leagues out of college or major junior.

A note to the CFL,
If your intent on playing football 2021 in any manner, get off your fat a** duffs and revive the proposed bubble concept with both Regina and Winnipeg as hosts. Both governments of Manitoba/Saskatchewan were willing and able to cost share a portion of the money needed, the rest of the money can come from equal share from the nine clubs, they’re not flat broke. A West/East division in these two cities. Warning- If you don’t play 2021 the CFL is done. Doesn’t matter no fans in the stands, get it done already, no excuses!
