WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: CRAIG BUTTON JOINS!

Wednesdays are for hockey on The RP Show and we welcomed one of the game’s biggest names down to Grey Eagle Resort & Casino in Calgary for Episode #969 on Game+ TV, WQEE and YouTube Live! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL leftovers including wild Tuesday games including Flames and Oilers wins and a big Jets loss, 2) Wednesday night’s NHL slate including Panthers at Leafs, 3) The Blue Jays wrapped up spring training with a 6-5 loss to the Phillies, 4) In the NBA the Hawks downed the Cavs 120-118 and the Raptors dunked the Heat 106-92, 5) Canada moved on to the semifinals of CONCACAF play with a 4-1 win over Honduras in Toronto, and 6) Rod’s NHL Top 5 are BOS – CAR – NYR – VGK – EDM while the Bottom 5 are ARZ – ANA – SJ – CHI – CBJ.
  • TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joined the show for an hour-plus long visit. Button took dozens of questions from viewers and said he could see the Flames overtaking the Jets for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. He also feels the best fit for Connor Bedard at #1 would be the Columbus Blue Jackets. Craig said the only way Bedard would be sent back to the WHL next season is if the NHL doesn’t play!
  • Sportsnet’s Arash Madani joined the show from Toronto to discuss Canada’s 4-1 win over Honduras. He feels there should be much more hype in Canada since we’ll be one of the host countries for the next World Cup. Regarding the CFL Combine, Arash wondered how John Hufnagel was still working for the Stampeders at the Combine since he stepped down as GM? Regarding Atlantic CFL expansion, Arash feels there’s still too many more questions than answers.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will the Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup? At press time close to 70% of respondents said no.
  • Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day was Jared Dumba. Wednesday’s was Craig Button!
  • If you missed the show you can catch the replay at 10 pm PT/12 am CT on Game+ TV, on our YouTube Channel or wherever you enjoy your podcasts.
  • See you at 12 pm ET on Thursday on Game+ TV, WQEE and YouTube Live.
