WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: GRAHAM DELAET & NATE BEHAR!

GRAHAM DELAET

It was a hump day for Episode #362 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) BC Lions President Rick LeLacheur says QB Mike Reilly is expected back with the team in 2021, 2) The Stampeders are forced to trim two coaches from their 2021 coaching staff due to CFL staff restrictions, 3) Does the CFL owe its players an answer on the 2021 season? (Rod said no), 4) The Flin Flon Bombers are reportedly moving to Creighton, SK temporarily due to Manitoba Covid restrictions, 5) Saints QB Drew Brees is reportedly done for the year, and 6) The NBA Draft goes Wednesday night.
  • Veteran CFL WR Nate Behar (Eskimos, RedBlacks) joined the show from Ottawa and immediately put any rumours of his retirement to bed. At age 26, he intends to resume his CFL career when the league returns. The London, ON product explained his start-up venture ATNMY Marketing in which his company matches pro athletes and Olympians with companies looking for influencers. Nate explained that there are two big firms in the USA doing this, but his is the first in Canada. The former first round CFL draft pick said these are confusing times for CFL players, and said communication from the league has been mixed. He also talked about the differences between playing in Edmonton and Ottawa, and the profile of players in each city.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will Mike Reilly still be with BC by the end of his contract in three seasons? At press time, the results were roughly 50/50.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and we were joined by PGA golfer and TSN analyst Graham DeLaet. The Weyburn product recapped The Masters and admitted it was a rather anti-climactic Sunday since Dustin Johnson mowed the competition throughout the four days. He said he’d like a future in TV one day, but plans to be on the pro tour for many more years. He pulled himself from the Houston event due to back problems, but played in Bermuda the week before. DeLaet also said how honoured he is that the Weyburn Golf Club has a sign bearing his likeness at its entrance, however it could use an upgrade! He feels growing up on that course playing 54 holes per day shaped him into the golfer he is, due to battling Saskatchewan winds. He also said Saskatchewan’s most underrated course is Evergreen in Nipawin. The 38-year old also told tales of playing in the Masters, and admitted he wished he’d played better.
  • During the show news broke that the Ottawa RedBlacks are retaining GM Marcel Desjardins and the entire Paul LaPolice coaching staff for 2021. RP said these are mixed messages from the CFL because if teams are announcing their staffs and season tickets are on sale, why can’t they guarantee to the players that there will be a 2021 season?
