WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: INSIDE THE ARGO BUBBLE, CFL/XFL & STANLEY CUP TALK!

IMG_7460-4

We were the beneficiaries of some big time breaking news on Wednesday’s Episode #520 of the RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Talkshow – and we had more great guests! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP hosted the Warmup for EECOL Electric with Moose Dupont appearing virtually from the Frontier City. The breaking news that the CFL & XFL have ended collaboration talks usurped the usual show topics! Rod was disappointed with the news while Moose said this doesn’t mean it won’t be revisited later. The discussion set the tone for the rest of the show.
  • The Quick Six show topics were: 1) The Montreal Canadiens will again try to avoid elimination Wednesday night in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final at Tampa Bay, 2) Super Bowl champion and former CFL’er Dan Goodspeed weighed in from Tampa and scolded the RP Show for its Habs decorations and rooting interest!, 3) Phoenix takes Game 1 of the NBA Finals, 118-105 over Milwaukee, 4) NBA Commissioner Adam Silver says it’s “unclear” if the Raptors will return to Toronto next season. What else could he say?, 5) The Blue Jays blow one at Baltimore (7-5) and trade Rowdy Tellez to the Brewers for two arms, and 6) Denmark faces England in a Euro 2020 semifinal today!
  • RP Show Director Scouting Craig Smith made his long-awaited return to the bunker and had a mixed reaction to the CFL/XFL news. He’d prefer the CFL to stay the way it is but also loves spring football and feels “the more football, the better”. The boys kibitzed with the viewers and Craig took a look across CFL training camps which are set to open this weekend.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for the Four Seasons Sports Palace, Craig Smith stayed with us and he took a closer look at the Roughriders QB stable and various other CFL musings.
  • Toronto Argonauts WR Ricky Collins Jr. joined the show from Argos quarantine at the University of Guelph. The former Rider, Lion & Eskimo said he’s been handle it pretty well due to gaming and strong Wifi! He outlined how the Argos meetings have gone, the outlook for the season and the wealth of talent the Argos possess. He explained that he came out of retirement to sign with the Argos because the young kids he was coaching in Texas encouraged him to do so!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: What’s your reaction to the news of the CFL & XFL break-up? At press time over 70% of respondents said they’re happy.
  • Producer Clark joined Rod for the Face Off debating the CFL/XFL news. Both agreed that they’d vote “sad” in the poll, and we were hoping for league growth. Rod said the thought of the CFL staying the same “scares” him. The Face Off is a presentation of UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant.
  • Wednesday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook/YouTube pages, you can catch the replay at 4:00 pm ET on Game+ TV, listen to the podcast by clicking on the CONTENT tab at the top of this page or listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio feed at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.

Adapt or die and that is where the CFL is headed. NCAA divisions all grow, merge, create TV stations yet the CFL pays QBs $400K/year and sell no tickets. That’s insanity. Saskatoon has this NLL where they sell out that rink and the Blades can’t draw flies. They have a pro-basketball team, and are looking at getting a soccer team. I can assure people the 18-35 year old crowd 2.5 hours North are not road trippin’ it to Regina to watch the Riders play the Stampeders 3 times a season at home. The 18-35 year old crowd in Regina is… Read more »

Totally agree with Rod when he says “the thought of the CFL staying the same scares him”.
Nothing has changed from the bad business practices currently on the books, it’s status quo for the old archaic broke CFL and that doesn’t bode well down the road. A old naive and gullible fanbase not where it’s at for this league’s future if it wants to continue forward.
