WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: LABOUR DAY PREVIEWS, ICE TALK & MORE!

Wednesday’s hump day Episode #562 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – was another exciting one! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Canada beats USA 3-2 in OT to win gold at the World Womens Hockey Championship (the boys were super impressed with the calibre of play!), 2) The Elks reportedly cut OL Jacob Ruby for fudging his vaccination status, 3) The NFLPA is investigating the Jaguars for cutting non-vaccinated players, 4) Labour Day Classic previews – MTL favoured by 6.5 over OTT, SASK favoured by 4.5 over WPG, HAM favoured by 2.0 over TOR and CGY favoured by 5.5 over EDM, 5) These are quiet times in the NHL, and 6) We welcome new sponsor Explore Edmonton & the World Rugby Seven Series!
  • TSN 690 Montreal’s Joey Alfieri joined the show to discuss all things Quebec. He reported Als QB Vernon Adams Jr. is under the gun and didn’t have a great practice on Tuesday. Joey plans to take in Friday’s Als/RedBlacks clash in Ottawa. He also expects the Canadiens to match Carolina’s $6.1M offer sheet for Jesperi Kotkaniemi and took the opportunity to trash Toronto FC! It was a great visit and Joey was humbled to hear Rod say Alfieri’s very popular among all his Montreal friends.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 5 of the CFL? At press time, Bombers/Riders were winning by a landslide.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for CORR Grain we discussed the Covid landscape in pro football and the fallout with Cam Newton as well as the Jaguars. Rod said he feels for CFL reporters right now – such as Dave Naylor and Justin Dunk – because there’s a lot of misinformation and posturing going on within the league.
  • Winnipeg ICE head coach James Patrick of the WHL joined the show from his office to preview ICE training camp and the season ahead. “JEEP” went deep into Winnipeg’s roster, gushed over the impact Peyton Krebs had in his time with the ICE, explained why he loves coaching in the WHL in his hometown so much, and much more.
