Episode #386 had some fire on The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup for the Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) At the World Juniors, Canada spanked Switzerland 10-0 and the USA routed the Czechs 7-0, 2) Are TSN announcers too harsh on Team Canada since they’re just teenagers?, 3) The Pat McAfee Show referred to the CFL as “dead” and “State Fair Football”, 4) The Raptors are 0-3 after falling 100-93 at the 76ers, 5) CFL Notes, and 6) Dupes’ NFL Top 5 are Buffalo, Kansas City, Green Bay, New Orleans and Seattle.
  • The guys played the clip from the Pat McAfee Show and had a long debate with viewers about the CFL’s perception. Dupes feels the CFL could beef up its image in America while RP advised, “YOU are responsible for your reputation.”
  • Ottawa RedBlacks Head Coach Paul LaPolice joined the show from the Nation’s Capital to discuss the career of Chris Streveler, who may start Sunday for Arizona in a must-win game. LaPo said no one will be more prepared than Streveler, and hopes the Cardinals coaches will devise a game plan specifically tailored to his talents. The former Blue Bombers offensive coordinator pointed out that Streveler threw nine touchdowns in his first three starts. Paul was also game to engage with viewers and answered several questions about the outlook for the RedBlacks, kibitzed with Arland Bruce III (who was watching the show live), and said if the Calgary Stampeders played the Jacksonville Jaguars at McMahon Stadium with CFL rules the Stamps would win. He pointed out that the talent level between the two leagues isn’t as wide as people think.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will win the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championships – Canada, USA, Sweden or Russia? At press time, Canada was leading with over 80% of the vote.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and after re-upping the Quick Six, we were joined by longtime Edmonton Oilers broadcaster Bob Stauffer. Bob said the excitement around the World Juniors in Edmonton is iffy, noting that it’s a shame fans aren’t allowed to attend. Regarding the Oilers chances this season, Bob expects them to be in the Top 3 of Canadian teams. He agreed with Rod that McDavid and Draisaitl weren’t to blame for Edmonton’s Play-In Round ouster at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks.
  • Rod and Darren Faced Off on Hockey Canada’s slogan “It’s Our Game”. Rod contends that it’s confusing because we’re trying to share the game with the world and it also draws a target on Team Canada’s back. Dupes feels there’s nothing wrong with the slogan and the fact is hockey IS Canada’s game.
