WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: NFL DRAFT, PATRICK ROY TALK, CEBL & GIFTS GALORE!

It was smiles all around on Episode #473 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – on Wednesday! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP & Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Vladdy goes off with 3 HR’s in the Blue Jays 9-5 win over the Nationals, 2) Patrick Roy makes it known he wants to coach again in the NHL, 3) Big games tonight – Maple Leafs at Canadiens and Oilers at Jets, 4) NFL Draft hype and Antonio Brown re-signs with the Buccaneers for 1-yr/$3M, 5) Rider great Rob Bagg’s inducted into the Queen’s University Hall of Fame, and 6) Dub Hub wrap.
  • Just before showtime we were joined in the bunker by Prince Albert Raiders business operations guys Mike Scissons and Cliffy Mapes who dropped off Leon Draisaitl and Kaiden Guhle bobbleheads and commemorative Raiders 50th Anniversary pucks. Later in the show Estevan’s Tower Restaurant dropped off pizzas for the whole RP Show staff. It was a great day!
  • The CEBL has announced a Name The Team contest for its Montreal expansion franchise (2022) and we asked viewers to submit names. Among the suggestions were Smoked Meats, Maroons, Expos, Seals, Nordiques, Wave, Madness, Hosers, Machine, Club de Montreal, Crash, Emeralds, Fire and Moose. RP said he favours the Wave while Dupes voted for Moose (of course). The hosts said they’re glad to have gotten in on the CEBL’s ground floor back in 2019.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which NHL team is the best fit for Patrick Roy – Buffalo, Montreal, Winnipeg or Other? At press time “Other” was leading with several viewers choosing Columbus.
  • Fan 590 Toronto Fantasy Expert and Cleveland Browns The Dawg House Podcast host Andy McNamara joined the show to preview the NFL Draft. He said all the intrigue in Round 1 begins with San Francisco’s #3 pick and Andy’s posted his mock draft at Sportsnet.ca. The former Voice of the Ticats predicts several Round 1 trades and said there’s so much hype and drama around the NFL Draft because “no one knows what will happen!” Andy promoted his new Fantasy website UFFSports.com and said he’s overwhelmed at the Browns being a Super Bowl favourite in 2021 because that’s never been the case!
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff we had more fun with the Montreal CEBL franchise name and also took a long look with viewers at the volatile career of Patrick Roy. Rod wonders why Roy and Chris Jones made a big public splash that “they’re available” and wonders if this is a trend of things to come with coaching candidates?
  • Canada’s foremost NFL expert, Jim Lang, was next up but first he previewed tonight’s Leafs/Canadiens showdown. Regarding Patrick Roy, Lang warned that perhaps Habs GM Marc Bergevin wouldn’t hire the enigmatic coach because he’d feel threatened. Rod advised that any boss who doesn’t hire the “best candidate” because he feels threatened is dooming his franchise for mediocrity. Jim then went into a deep dive and the NFL Draft, made his predictions, and said he can’t wait for the 3-day Draft!

Patrick Roy reminds of Mr.Everyting Chris Jones, highly successful but a quitter, (PS, Im a big fan and supporter of Chris Jones). Patrick Roy a short term answer to any teams fortunes, he wants to be fully in charge of all team decision making, he wouldn’t last anywhere, Montreal of all places would not be a good place for him. He walked out on them and quit mid game, wayyy too temperamental.
