We covered it all on Episode #314 of The RP Show, Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod, Dupes and Amanda Ruller covered these Quick Six show topics in The Warmup: 1) Don Cherry interview leftovers (who’s sticking up for Canada now that Grapes is gone?), 2) The Golden Knights blank Dallas 3-0 to even the series 1-1, 3) CFL.ca’s Brodie Lawson gets furloughed, 4) RP Googled it and “Furlough” is a fancy name for a temporary layoff by some definitions, 5) Raptors face elimination in Game 6 and the Blue Jays beat New York again, and 6) The Banjo Bowl won the poll for Canada’s Game of the Week in CFL SIM and will be broadcast at 7:00 pm MT Friday on Facebook Live.
  • Amanda Ruller discussed her new role on 3DownNation and also told her story to Game+ viewers about being a walk-on with the Los Angeles Temptations of the LFL. She refused to be cut, was homeless for a spell in LA, and ended up making the team! It was an inspiring story. They also discussed Brodie Lawson’s sad news and the panel agreed she’s a pioneer for the CFL so it is truly heartbreaking.
  • Woodbine Racetrack host/analyst Jason Portuondo – a former co-worker of Rod’s at Sportsnet – joined the show from Toronto to preview Saturday’s 161st running of the Queen’s Plate. He gave the ins and outs of the event, examined the field, and teed up CTV’s coverage which features host Brian Williams. Portuondo also explained the Dark Horse app and how viewers can wager on the Queen’s Plate. Use the promo code DHRod to get $30 in your account!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should Don Cherry be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame? At press time roughly 80% of respondents said yes.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by Sirius/XM NHL Radio’s Scott Laughlin. He discussed the Stanley Cup Playoffs and told tales of Wayne Gretzky calling into his show over the years. Laughlin also examined the future of the Golden Knights crease and many other NHL stories.
  • RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith joined the show to preview Week 1 in the NFL, and his Power 5 rankings which created quite a back-and-forth with the viewers. He’s got Kansas City at #1 for obvious reasons and is high on Tampa Bay and Indianapolis. The interview was so riveting that Smitty stayed on for two full segments.
