WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: SID DISHES, KRAKEN TALK, CFL & MORE!

We covered it all on a hump day Episode #527 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – on Wednesday! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got it rolling with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The American League beat the National League 5-2 in the MLB All Star Game and Vlady was the youngest game MVP ever, 2) MLB plans to ditch 7-inning doubleheaders and putting a runner on second base to begin extra innings, 3) What’s popping in the CFL? What are our expectations?, 4) Potential NHL protected lists, 5) Rider LB Deon Lacey is removed from Day 4 of training camp and placed in Covid protocol, and 6) Game 4 of the NBA Finals goes Wednesday night.
  • Sid Sixeiro joined the show from Toronto for a wide-ranging chat. He and Rod are old buddies from their days on The Score Sports Network. Sid was so pleased for Vlady in the All Star Game and said he’s giving the Blue Jays everything they hoped for. Sid then – seemingly for the first time on national television – divulged his big decision to leave Sportsnet’s Tim & Sid show to join Breakfast Television. Sixeiro said the pandemic caused the move, and said he wasn’t being challenged on Tim & Sid, even though he loved every minute of being on the program. He then explained his preparations for the new role, plans for growth, and how he’s not as plugged in on sports as he used to be. It was a very revealing, entertaining chat.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the most coveted NHL free agent – Ryan Getzlaf, Taylor Hall, Dougie Hamilton or Alex Ovechkin? At press time, Ovie was leading.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for the Four Seasons Sports Palace, the guys went deep into a CFL discussion and Deon Lacey going into Covid protocol. Viewers wondered how the whole team isn’t affected by the virus due to a presumed positive test for Lacey, but Rod said he has no idea what the details are. The host divulged that football insiders say the CFL is exactly where the NFL was a year ago (i.e. Ravens WR Dez Bryant was removed from a game warmup and placed into Covid protocol).
  • Seattle Kraken TV Voice John Forslund joined the show from his off-season home in Raleigh, NC for an all-encompassing chat. He thoroughly enjoyed the Stanley Cup Playoffs but admitted the Montreal/Vegas series was weird due to the Covid situation in both markets. (One was wide open while the other was restricted). Forslund said he’s excited about the Kraken’s expansion draft on July 21 but said he hasn’t delved too much into whom the franchise will select. He said he’s content to wait to see who’s called, and related it to waiting to unwrap presents on Christmas morning. The longtime Hurricanes and NHL On NBC play-by-play man talked about excitement for the Kraken across the continent and its growing fanbase. He also talked about blossoming rivalries with the Canucks and Golden Knights, and how he got his start in hockey broadcasting with the AHL’s Springfield Indians.
  • Rod and Darren Faced Off on the new Portland Winterhawks logo unveiled on Wednesday. Rod gave it the thumbs down saying it’s too much like the old Tri-City Americans logo, from the Carey Price era. However Darren said he’s all in favour of it and gave it the thumbs up. The Face Off is a presentation of UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant.

CFL teams have the perfect ruse to hide behind – “no media or fans allowed” to watch training camps. Riders and the CFleague in shush mode regarding the whole organization and Deon Lacey. Fans will never know what’s going on and that’s irresponsible on the Roughriders when it comes to a virus floating around close to the first game of the season.

All these injuries being reported (some not) just shows how unprepared and out of shape the Roughriders team of Riderville really is. Did their team management not anticipate all scenarios such as whats currently before them, they had almost two years off to plan.
