WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: WILLARD REAVES JOINS!
We made a lot of headway on Episode #310 of The RP Show, Canada’s daytime sports talk show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Tuesday was a bad day for Toronto sports teams (Raptors and Blue Jays), 2) Tuesday in the NHL saw the Flyers and Canucks stay alive, 3) Roger Goodell says “The NFL stands with the Black community” but the hosts agreed that’s not the case until Colin Kaepernick has a job in the league, 4) We await an official start date for Junior A hockey leagues across Canada, 5) We were denied the chance to watch the “Holy Child”, Connor Bedard, in the Pats Blue & White Game, and 6) Week 13 in the CFL SIM League.
- Blue Bombers great Willard Reaves – the patriarch of the hallowed Reaves sports family – joined the show from Winnipeg for a wide-ranging chat. He expressed tremendous pride in watching his sons Ryan with the Vegas Golden Knights and Jordan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Willard said the pair has been close their whole lives. He said Mosaic Stadium and T-Mobile Arena are very similar in terms of energy for home games. Reaves also stated the CFL made the right decision in shutting down the season, and hopes for the best in the future.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is the best 2nd Round Stanley Cup Playoff Series? At press time, Vegas/Vancouver was leading.
- With a buffet of sports on TV right now, RP said his greatest pleasure was watching Texas/Tennessee high school football on ESPN Wednesday between Trinity Christian and Knox Catholic. The network giant used all the bells and whistles for a high school game and RP said it’s akin to TSN using Chris Cuthbert and Glen Suitor to broadcast a Leboldus/Campbell RIFL game. Viewers suggested that would make a great promotion for Canadian amateur football.
- Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by Charlotte, NC sportscaster Brian Snow of Snowman In the Morning. He dropped bombs on the NFL saying their Black Lives Matter stance means nothing if Kaepernick’s still out of a job. He also described the NBA boycotts as nothing more than a “temper tantrum”. Brian also previewed the NFL season saying Carolina and Jacksonville will be trying to finish in last place in the “Tank For Trevor (Lawrence)” sweepstakes. He also dabbled in the NBA Playoffs and said Lebron’s comments are hollow.
- Sportsnet’s Arash Madani joined the show from Toronto and talked about the rising expectations for the Blue Jays. He tempered them, saying the Jays are on the rise but no one expected them to make the playoffs. Madani’s also been disappointed in the Raptors’ second round performance, trailing the Celtics 2-0. Regarding the CFL, Arash examined layoffs and furloughs in the head office including longtime VP of Football Operations Kevin McDonald. Madani quipped that it’s turning into a Game of Thrones between supporters and detractors of Commissioner Randy Ambrosie.
- You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Willard Reaves was leading.
- See you at 10 am MT on Thursday on Game+ TV Network, Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.
