WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: WINTER SPORTS TAKEOVER!

The snow’s not on the ground yet, but Return To Play is a hot topic and curling is BACK! We covered it all on Episode #338 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show. Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Titans rout the Bills 42-16 on Tuesday Night Football, 2) Should Dak Prescott be the Cowboys quarterback in 2021? (RP says it’s a dumb question), 3) The tab for the NHL bubbles is $75M-$90, 4) Fallout from the Edmonton CFL bubble scoop, 5) ALCS: Tampa Bay 3 Houston 0, NLCS: Atlanta 2 LA Dodgers 0, and 6) Return To Play in hockey: Major Junior and Junior A.
  • Viewers eagerly grasped the junior hockey story and RP shared what he knows. They went across the country with which Junior A leagues are playing (the SJHL appears to be close) and RP and Dupes said something appears to be afoot in the WHL. Rod didn’t want to get into too much more for fear of “jinxing it”.
  • NHL alum and TSN 1050 Toronto’s Carlo Colaiacovo joined the show and reflected on his four years with the OHL’s Erie Otters. He recapped the Leafs free agency acquisitions and is optimistic about the club. He was at the forefront of the Alex Pietrangelo story and said it was an incredibly difficult decision for the prized free agent. Carlo also discussed free agency rumours around Joe Thornton, and more.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which NFL bad boy would you sign first? Le’Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, Earl Thomas or Colin Kaepernick? At press time, the leader was Kaepernick.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by Vegas Golden Knights TV colour commentator Shane Hnidy. The former P.A. Raider recapped the difficult decision to trade away defenseman Nate Schmidt to make room for Pietrangelo. Hnidy won’t go as far as to say Pietrangelo is the missing piece to a Stanley Cup title, but said he was definitely the top free agent on the market. Regarding reports that Golden Knights players are upset over a lack of loyalty within the organization, Shane shrugged, “Where does the entitlement come from?” He explained that being an NHL player comes with a lot of benefits, but one downside is the lack of job security.
  • Matt Dunstone – skip of the reigning Saskatchewan mens curling champion Team Dunstone – joined the bunker to promote this weekend’s Vaderstad Saskatchewan Super Series presented by Calidon Leasing. Five Sask teams will be competing at the Highland Curling Club. You can watch the games at CurlingZone.com. Matt also discussed curling’s Return To Play and how eager they are to get back to the Brier. He said initially he was intimidated by the greats of the game, but now feels his team belongs with the big boys.
