WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP
Wednesday’s show was Episode #86 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened with the Warmup talking about opening night in the NHL, Stanley Cup Final predictions, The Athletic poll naming Paul Maurice as the likeliest coach to be fired first in the NHL, and the Simoni Lawrence situation. Rod reacted to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats linebacker’s comments towards him, saying there was no racial intent with his suggestion of a year-long suspension. He feels the term “thuggish” has no racial connotation. The guys also discussed their victory in Game 1 of the Ballers Great Western Indoor Slo-Pitch League.
- Derek “Duke” Meyers and The Sports Doctor Dave Petrishen joined the bunker in Segment 2, talking about the Bombers QB situation and the Riders’ decision to sit down Emmanual Arceneaux in favour of Jordan Williams-Lambert for Saturday’s game against Winnipeg at Mosaic Stadium. The Sports Doc feels this is a “playoff” game, and the panel agreed that it’s likely a battle for who will finish in at least 2nd place in the CFL West.
- LeafsTV reporter Paul Hendricks joined the show via video chat from Scotiabank Arena where the Toronto Maple Leafs open against the Ottawa Senators. Hendricks predicted a 1-goal game tonight, and said this is the most-talent Leafs unit he’s seen since the 1993 Leafs.
- Former Bomber and Ram Addison Richards joined the show in Hour 2 for a further CFL discussion, and the topic of leadership in sports. He agreed with the Riders’ plan moving forward for Williams-Lambert. He also agreed with Winnipeg’s decision not to acquire a veteran QB in advance of next week’s CFL Trade Deadline.
- TSN 1290 Winnipeg and NHL.com’s Darrin Bauming joined the show from Bell MTS Centre for a Jets update, and the latest on Dustin Byfuglien’s suspension from the club. He then ventured into Riders/Bombers talk and the crew debated the pressure on the Walters/O’Shea regime the rest of the way given they’re in the final year of their contracts.
- The Duke returned to the bunker for more of an NHL chat. Here are the guys’ predictions for the Stanley Cup Final: Rod (Vegas/Tampa Bay), Sports Doctor (St. Louis/Washington), Duke (Vegas/Tampa Bay), Addison (Toronto. Period.), Dupont (San Jose/Florida). Viewers weighed in with their picks on the Facebook feed.
- The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Do you think Simoni Lawrence is a dirty player? At press time, over 90% of respondents said yes.
- In honour of show #86, the guys recognized players who’ve worn number-86 in their career and the list included Hines Ward, Kamau Peterson, Addison Richards, Nathan Hoffart, Peewee Smith, Artemi Panarin, Nikita Kucherov and Wojtek Wolski.
