Wednesday’s show was Episode #57 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!:

  • It was a jam-packed show, so much so that Darren Dupont stepped out of the bunker for The Warmup to make way for guests Derek “Duke” Meyers and Riders/Stamps/Ticats alum Marshall Hamilton. They immediately plunged into the CFl talk with a wide range of guests from all across the continent.
  • In honour of show #57, it was basically dubbed the “Bob Poley Episode” in honour of the Rider icon who wore #57. Other sports figures who wore that number were recognized such as Brendan Labatte, Clay Mathews, Marc Parenteau, Chad Hinz, Steve Howe, Bart Starr, Tom Jackson and Francisco Rodriguez.
  • TSN 690 Montreal’s Joey Alfieri was first up via video chat and said Alouettes fans are still fuming over the weather protocol which ended the Week 9 game at Percival Molson Stadium with Saskatchewan winning 17-10. He feels the new rule wasn’t communicated properly, and should allow for a longer weather delay than 60 minutes. He feels the outcome was a blackmark on the CFL. Regarding the resurgent Alouettes, Joey said Als coach Khari Jones should get the bulk of the credit however we shouldn’t forget the input of former Als GM Kavis Reed. Regarding the sale of the Alouettes, Alfieri said “I have no idea. I’m not sure what they’re waiting for”.
  • Outspoken former Lions/Bombers/Riders defensive lineman and CFL on CBC analyst Daved “Mr. Furious” Benefield joined the show from Vancouver. He went off on the current state of CFL marketing, and said the league should showcase its personalities rather than stifle them. However he feels in the major markets, fans don’t care to watch athletes making $75,000 per season, even though the CFL is a tremendous brand of football. It’s a must-see interview.
  • Former BC Lions WR Marco Ianuzzi joined the show via video chat from White Rock, BC to discuss his group’s desire to buy the Lions from current owner David Braley. Rod asked how close they are to a sale and Marco answered, “I think we’ve been close for five years. The key figure here is David Braley”. Marco feels local ownership would be a major step towards re-establishing the Lions as a force in the Vancouver sports market.
  • And perhaps the star of the show was former flamboyant CFL DB Dwight Anderson who joined the show from his home in St. Louis, MO where he’s now coaching high school football. D.A. covered all kinds of topics, including his various CFL stops and his his love/hate relationship with fans across the league. He discussed the “Dewdney Incident” during the 2013 Rider season and when asked what he misses the most about his career, D.A. answered “The fans”. It’s a must-see interview, just like Benefield’s.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL? The whopping winner was Winnipeg at Edmonton on Friday Night Football.

Go Raiders!
Go Packers!

Question, wonder how many minor league Roughrider executives – team personnel will be at the Packer Raider game trying to be in the know with real Big League pros?
