WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: A BIG CFL DAY!

STEELE

The guys (and gal) had great football discussions on Wednesday’s Episode 210 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Magnificent Seven show topics: 1) Gary Bettman tells NBC Sports Radio that they likely won’t finish the NHL regular season. Are we really surprised?, 2) Bo Levi’s stolen CFL rings were in an unlocked truck, 3) Tom Brady’s revealing interview on the Howard Stern Show, 4) A revelation Rod had about his own career from the Brady interview, 5) There’s all kinds of NFL Draft coverage out there. Are you interested?, 6) What interests you more: the NFL Draft or CFL Draft? For that matter, what about the NHL or WHL Drafts? and 7) What are the ramifications of a delayed, 18-game CFL season?
  • CTV’s and CFL on TSN’s Claire Hanna joined the show from her home office to chat about self-isolating, covering the CFL as a sideline reporter, and Tuesday’s curling news that Team Dunstone is moving on without Catlin Schneider (Claire didn’t see that one coming). She also said, as far as she knows, the plan is for the 2020 Grey Cup in Regina to go ahead as scheduled.
  • 3DownNation CFL Insider Justin Dunk joined the show from Southern Ontario and agreed with Claire, that the 2020 Grey Cup is on schedule, as far as he knows. The guys talked about a potential wide open CFL free agent market and Justin said his #1 pick would be Bo Levi Mitchell. Rod said his would be Cody Fajardo, but admitted that he’s biased. Dunk also said that he hears the minimum amount of games the CFL would go to with an amended schedule is eight. He said the league powerbrokers are examining all scenarios at the moment.
  • Grey Cup champion and Vanier Cup champion Eddie Steele joined the show from his home in Edmonton to support Duron Carter’s controversial comments that now society knows how football players feel when they lose their job. Eddie said that while he doesn’t always agree Duron, he feels his former teammate is only speaking the truth in this instance. The former Rider, Eskimo and Ticat spoke at length about the constant terror players live with in regards to being replaced, or their contracts being torn up. Eddie said he had a great career, but doesn’t miss living with that constant stress.
  • BC Lions offensive lineman Sukh Chung joined the show from his home in Vancouver. He talked about the chip on the Lions’ shoulder going into 2020 (given their last-place finish in 2019), and also explained how CFL players are staying in shape during the stay-at-home order. Chung admitted that it “hurt a bit” to watch his former Winnipeg teammates win the Grey Cup in 2019, but inferred that he doesn’t regret signing with his hometown Lions. He also explained how much the Lions doggies enjoy playing for position coach Kelly Bates.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will you hesitate to re-enter stadiums and arenas once the pandemic is over? Over 60% of voters said no.
  • Dupes and Rod closed the show by saying it will be a tough task to get fans back into stadiums when this crisis lifts, but the task is not impossible. Rod truly believes the Lions can get back to the days of 55,000 fans per game in BC Place Stadium.
  • Viewers voted comedian Kelly Taylor as Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions on Twitter. Wednesday’s poll on the day’s guests is live now from our Twitter feed at @rodpedersenshow.
