WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: A BUSY DAY, AND THE FOOT BOUNCE CHALLENGE!

There were no bells and whistles for Episode 200 of The Rod Pedersen Show but we had a big show nonetheless! Here are the highlights:

  • First off, the RP Show has partnered with Campbell Safety to employ best practices amid the pandemic, and spread the message of Safety First! Our staff is complying with all safety guidelines and rules.
  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) What does Tom Brady have to prove in 2020?, 2) What does Cody Fajardo have to prove in 2020?, 3) What does __(your pick)__ have to prove in 2020?, 4) Mental Health during self-isolation, 5) Are you bored at home?, and 6) Wednesday’s WHL Draft Lottery.
  • Former NFLer and CFLer Garrick Jones has started a petition to become the next GM of the Houston Texans and joined the show from Houston. He explained his mission (a culture problem within the Texans), the chances of QB DeShaun Watson leaving the Texans, and much, much more. Garrick also explained why he was nicknamed “The Commish” by his former pro football teammates.
  • Sportsnet’s Arash Madani joined the show from his home in Toronto for a wide-ranging chat. He applauded the Canadian Olympic Committee’s decision to pull out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but doesn’t think that triggered the IOC’s decision to postpone the games by one year. The decision itself has cost $2.7-billion dollars US. Arash examined the complicated relationship of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, the Bucs’ and Patriots’ chances in 2020, then got into some Ottawa Renegades stories, where he worked in the CFL team’s front office in the early 2000s.
  • Sportsnet Flames host Ryan Leslie joined the show from his home in Calgary and immediately delved into Rod’s heated relationship with Calgary. He then recapped a turbulent season for the Flames, the incredibly emotional Battle of Alberta, and unfortunately predicted there will be no more NHL this season. Leslie also took some playful jabs at the CFL, knowing that hits a nerve with Rod.
  • Retired Army Major Brad Hyrcyna joined the bunker to talk news around his beloved Riders, Rod’s Top 10 all-time Roughriders list, and spoke about the Last Post Fund which raises money to give veterans a proper funeral.
  • During the show the Regina Pats won the WHL’s Draft Lottery, giving them the right to draft Connor Bedard #1 overall next month. Bedard, a West Vancouver Warriors product, is the first player in Western Canadian history to be granted Exceptional Player Status and is guaranteed to go #1 overall. Dupes applauded the moves by Pats GM John Paddock to put them in position to win the #1 pick. Rod reported that Bedard’s preference was to go to the Pats.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who has the most pressure on them in 2020 in the NFL?: Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Todd Gurley or Bill Belichick? At press time, the race was neck-and-neck.
  • Right after the show, Rod was nominated by Ottawa RedBlacks QB Nick Arbuckle to take the CFL Foot Bounce Challenge (see how many times you can bounce a football in 15 seconds). Rod took the challenge, got 12, and then challenged BO LEVI MITCHELL! The video is available on Rod’s social media feeds.
