WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: A LANDMARK DAY!

WARRENMOON

We experienced a huge first on Episode #241 of The Rod Pedersen Show on Wednesday! Read on for the details:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) MLB players being “extremely disappointed” with the owners’ Return To Play proposal and is MLB in danger of losing more fans?, 2) How different will the Stanley Cup Playoffs be to win under this year’s format compared to the traditional 16-team bracket?, 3) What does it mean to have CFL facilities opened for “practice”?, 4) TSN says it’ll be 3-4 weeks before we hear anymore NHL news, 5) More on ESPN’s NFL Power Index, and 6) Part 1 of the ESPN 30 for 30 on Lance Armstrong aired Tuesday evening.
  • The “first” for the RP Show was having one of the biggest names in football, Warren Moon, appearing on the show from his Seattle home. Moon is the first Pro Football Hall of Famer to appear on our program. He covered a wide array of topics and predicted that the NFL will kickoff in September but isn’t so sure if fans will be in attendance. Moon talked about his 5 Grey Cups with the Eskimos, the importance of the CFL to the pro football landscape and how the CFL gave him a shot when his own country wouldn’t. He also took many questions from viewers.
  • Canadian Football Hall of Famer Damon Allen was watching the show and proposed a Canadian version of The Match, featuring pro golfers and sports celebrities. That spawned a discussion of who would be involved including Mike Weir, Graham Delaet, Lori Kane, the Flutie brothers and more.
  • CFL great Nik Lewis joined the show and offered to play in the Canadian Pro Am. He discussed life in the CFL at the moment, and how coaches and players are in a holding pattern. He proposed a new salary structure in the CFL involving “marquee players”, but feels a cap on QB salaries isn’t necessary.
  • NFL/NHL/CFL agent Rob Fry joined the show from his home in Calgary and talked about some of the biggest deals he brokered in his career, how CFL players are managing the postponement of training camps, and answered many questions from viewers. He presented the players’ concerns over returning to play.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the greatest all-time CFL quarterback – Doug Flutie, Warren Moon, Ricky Ray or other? At press time, Flutie was leading the Twitter poll and Moon was leading the Facebook poll!
  • For the second straight day the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was won by acclimation. Warren Moon was named the winner, by no contest. Professional fan Cameron Hughes won the same honour on Tuesday.

Baseball attendance last year saw its 4th consecutive drop & was at levels not seen since 2003. Baseball today is boring. Everybody goes for the fences or strikes out. Bunts are unheard of, high fielding % is considered old school. A relief pitcher may face 1 batter, a LH middle relief pitcher can work 3 times a week, pitch to 3 batters & earn millions. There’s not much fielding due to rocket arms & home run derbys. You can make squillions as… Read more »
