IMG_2973

Wednesday was Episode #124 of The Rod Pedersen Show is on track to be our highest-viewed yet! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes were joined by hockey analyst Jared Dumba (former pro player, Blade & Hound) for The Rollout for Flooring Superstore. They touched on the Babcock/Peters stories in the NHL and Rod reiterated that while he doesn’t condone Babcock’s actions, he doesn’t feel he’s a horrible human being as some have made him out to be. Jared countered that he’s not a Babcock fan, and gave the reasons why. News broke just before the show that the Edmonton Eskimos fired head coach Jason Maas, and the guys broke down that story.
  • That spawned the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question: Where will Jason Maas surface next in the CFL – BC, Saskatchewan, Ottawa or other? The majority of respondents predict it’ll be with the Lions.
  • TSN Radio’s Michael Landsberg joined the show from Toronto and gave his take on the Babcock situation. He admitted that while they’re good friends, he can see why the Leafs made the move. He also offered his take on the Toronto Argonauts, saying the franchise has completely disappeared on the Toronto landscape. Landsberg also chuckled that he always gets Rod confused with Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson.
  • 13-year NHL vet and Columbus Blue Jackets scout Rich Sutter joined the show and said it’s been a very rough 48 hours in the hockey world given the Babcock/Peters stories. His was a philosophical visit, in which Rich stated that life’s too short to hold grudges and that our goals should to be happy, and be good people.
  • Canadian Football Hall of Famer Jim Hopson joined the bunker in Hour 2 and recapped the 107th Grey Cup, saying he’s overjoyed for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to be CFL champions. He also offered his take on CFL business, including the football operations salary cap and staff limitation. Hopson feels it needs to be looked at in the off-season because it’s handcuffing teams.
  • Global Regina’s and RP Show Director of Officiating Taylor Shire joined the bunker as well, offering his take on 1-year contracts in the CFL, the future of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the raging popularity of Rider QB Cody Fajardo. Taylor said he gets asked daily, “Is Cody really this nice?” Taylor confirmed that indeed he is.
  • Eskimos LB Don Unamba joined the show from Texas and said he and his teammates were surprised by the firing of Maas. The All Star linebacker said Maas was popular with his players. He also gave his take on 1-year contracts, and the season the Eskimos had.
  • In honour of show #124 the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn #24 in their career and the group included Bob Probert, Marshawn Lynch, Koby Bryant, Chris Chelios, Jackie Mitchell, Champ Bailey, Chris Schlenker, Jeff Gordon, Bob Kosid, Tom Campana and Tino Martinez.

Babcock may not be a horrible human being but asking a rookie to rate the players from first to worst & then presenting the list to the players is beyond a horrible idea. Fact is the players, by all accounts, didn’t like playing for him. I can’t feel sorry for someone on a $50MM contract & only half way through. Don’t think he’ll be needing food stamps.

Football operations and salary cap and staff limitations;

League circumventing its very own mandated rules by signing the montreal head coach ahead of a new ownership group acquiring the club. league now assumes the entire 3 year contract thereby letting the new potential owners off the hook to include this transaction on their overall team operations. I call out the commissioner on his two faced hypocrite bull sh*t.
