WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: JEFF REINEBOLD JOINS!
We tackled the day’s hottest sports topics on Episode #257 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Is the CFLPA being too hard on the CFL? (Calling them arrogant), 2) The mess that is the Buffalo Sabres, 3) Team Canada invites 15 WHL players to their virtual training camp in July, 4) NHL.com’s Stanley Cup playoff darkhorses (the Coyotes’ Barrett Hayton tops the list), 5) Podcasts are all the rage and this week RP appeared on The Voice & The Coach, The Shaun Newman Podcast and Canadian History. Which podcasts are you listening to?, 6) Week 2 CFL Sim storylines (the return of Naaman Roosevelt to Riderville and Trevor Harris facing the RedBlacks).
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 2 of CFL SIM – BC at CGY, MTL at SK, HAM at TOR or OTT at EDM? The majority of respondents voted for MTL at SK.
- Hamilton Tiger-Cats Special Teams Coordinator Jeff Reinebold joined the show from his home in Hawaii and explained how coaches are keeping in touch with players at this time, and keeping ready for the season. The colourful coach explained why Hawaii is his happy place, how he got into the CFL (as a guest coach with BC in 1991), and gave an impassioned address on why the CFL is so beautiful and needs to be saved.
- TSN 1040 Vancouver’s Matt Sekeres joined the show and explained how they’re filling four hours of sports talk daily during the pandemic. He suggested the CFL completely scrap the 2020 season and gets its ship in order for 2021. He’s close to suggesting the same thing for the NHL because the Hub City concept has too many roadblocks.
- Calgary Flames broadcaster Peter Loubardias pinch-hit for country star Brett Kissel and covered a wide range of topics including the squabble between MLB owners and players. “FIGURE IT OUT!” Lou advised. He also profiled his quarantine flow, and covered all the day’s topics. Regarding the Sabres and other floundering sports franchises, Peter thinks they can’t keep changing GMs and coaches. He feels a GM in the NHL should get five years to turn things around. The Sabres’ Jason Botterill only got three.
- 3DownNation CFL Insider Justin Dunk joined the show from Southern Ontario and discussed reaction to his reports this week of Football Operations cuts and the CFLPA’s concerns. Justin revealed there’s a lot of anger within the CFL at the moment with the way things have been handled. Regarding the CFLPA, Dunk feels the union has given in way too many times over the years and this time they’re standing their ground.
- RP mentioned that he’s drifting away from Korean Baseball right now, and gravitating more towards Nascar, UFC and horse racing. “They offer speed and contact,” he said, which baseball does not.
- News broke during the end of the show that the University of Alberta is cancelling all sports programs for the 2020-21 season and admitted it’s a financial issue. The guys figure it’s a sign of things to come.
- You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Peter Loubardias was leading. Tuesday’s vote was won by TSN’s Rod Black.
