WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: JORDAN EBERLE JOINS!

Wednesday’s Episode 171 of The Rod Pedersen Show had plenty of big names! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores covering these show topics: 1) Chris Streveler to the Cardinals, 2) Did the Bombers make a mistake in choosing Collaros over Nichols?, 3) Oilers blanked in the desert, 4) Will Alex Ovechkin catch Wayne Gretzky’s career goals record of 894?, 5) Tom Brady’s future, 6) XFL and 7) Is there any point in airing a CFL Free Agency show? All the big names seem to be getting snatched up.
  • Stampeders great Nik Lewis joined the bunker to discuss the football topics, and the expectations of the XFL. The guys all agreed they’ll check out Week 1 this weekend with four games on the schedule.
  • TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor joined the show from his Toronto home for a very insightful chat. He said the new CFL Free Agent Negotiation Window is working just as well as the league hoped it would (legalized and regulated tampering). “Nayls” discussed Streveler’s signing in Arizona and said NFL teams are looking for young, athletic players in the CFL and not necessarily the league’s best players. Dave also said he was surprised by the Bombers choosing Zach Collaros over Matt Nichols, especially since the play of Nichols saved a lot of jobs in Winnipeg in the summer of 2018.
  • Former BC Lions head coach Devone Claybrooks joined the show from Calgary. He was fired after just one season as head coach in BC and said he’s chalked it up to a learning experience. He felt the club was building something special but it is what it is. He’s cooling his heels and waiting on his next pro coaching opportunity. Asked about the vacant D-line coaching job in Saskatchewan, Devone said he’s not in position to look at it at this time.
  • New York Islanders winger and Regina Pats great Jordan Eberle joined the show from Long Island. He discussed Tuesday’s 4-3 OT win over Dallas (in which he had 2 assists), his move from the Oilers to the Islanders, how the Isles are in “playoff mode” already and he loves it, and recalled some great Pats stories from his time in Regina alongside Rod.
