WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: JUSTIN DUNK BREAKS BIG NEWS!
We had some big breaking news on Episode #252 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Read on for the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) RP mentioned that he wished there were more sports to discuss but this is the time we live in, 2) What’s the latest on Canada West?, 3) NFL’er Malcolm Jenkins says the NFL should “put Colin Kaepernick” on a team or their apology won’t matter, 4) MLS is back with a World Cup-style tournament in late-July at Disney World, 5) MLB/MLBPA remain far apart on a 2020 season and 6) The NCAA will play football but Canada West will not?
- The panel debated the latest on Canada West including Football Canada President Jim Mullin’s Tweet that universities are examining non-conference games in a way to play in 2020. Meanwhile there’s a rumour CJFL teams are considering adding 6 extra sports for university players. On MLS, RP said he can watch soccer in a shortened playoff, but can’t hang in for a full season.
- TSN 1260 Edmonton’s Jason Gregor joined the show to discuss the COVID era in the City of Champions, the Oilers/Blackhawks first round series, the future of the CFL and if Ed Hervey will be able to make the BC Lions Grey Cup champions. (Gregor and Hervey have a great relationship going back to Ed’s playing days with the Eskimos).
- 3DownNation CFL Insider Justin Dunk saved his biggest scoop for the RP Show. He reported that the 4-14 Toronto Argonauts are the only team to go over the salary cap in 2019 but they won’t be fined due to pandemic concerns currently facing CFL teams. Dunk said the other eight CFL teams are very upset over the decision and viewers chimed in with similar criticism. It became a hot topic throughout the rest of the show. Justin also discussed three different scenarios the CFL is looking at regarding Quarantine Cities and the impact of U-Sports sports cancellations.
- Roughriders WR Brayden Lenius joined the show post-workout from Mosaic Stadium. He talked about the mood of CFL players at the moment, discussed his road to the CFL after growing up in Regina and playing NCAA at Washington and New Mexico, and compared the environment of the Fiesta Bowl and home games at Mosaic Stadium. Whenever the pandemic ends, Brayden expressed his excitement at being a big part of the Roughriders in the years ahead.
- Matt Hetherington from the Drive The Green Podcast joined the show to discuss golf in Saskatchewan, their show which includes interviews with PGA stars and distributed gifts to the RP Show from PLYR Golf and their podcast.
- The guys said they’ll be running computer simulations of CFL games beginning with Thursday night’s season-opener featuring BC at Edmonton. Since the Eskimos boast the most lavish halftime shows/concerts, the Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which halftime act should perform on TNF at Commonwealth Stadium: Vanilla Ice, Nickelback, Roger Whittaker or Kim Mitchell? At press time, Nickelback was leading.
- You can vote now on our Twitter poll for Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Brayden Lenius was leading. Wednesday’s vote was won by Mark Recchi.
- Wednesday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook page, you can listen to the podcast by clicking on the PODCAST tab at the top of this page, or you can listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio stream at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.
- See you at 10 am MT Thursday on Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive. On the guest list is Hockey Hall of Famer Chris Pronger!
Roger Whittaker would be sold out in minutes to play Mosaic stadium Regina. Riderville would be giddy with glee to pay for that halftime entertainment.
The Toronto Argonauts will not be fined by CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie for breaking the league salary cap rule???? that in a nutshell is why this CFL is construed as minor Bush league with a capital B. Why does the CFL have rules anyway? They continue to make things up on the go just to appease while dismissive to their very own manual to their operations.
It is incorrect that “the other 8 teams are upset.”
The commissioner alone would not have the power to override a league and arms length CBA agreement on his own. This came with governor approval.
