WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: KEITH SHOLOGAN JOINS!

Wednesday’s show was Episode #105 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights:

  • This show had fire! Rod and Dupes were joined by Derek “Duke” Meyers for The Rollout, presented by Flooring Superstore. Rod began the show discussing the controversial Game 6 in the World Series between Washington and Houston, and teed up Wednesday evening’s Game 7. However it quickly became evident viewers and listeners weren’t too interested in that topic, preferring instead for the CFL Most Outstanding Player nominees which were announced at 10 am MT. Rod wondered aloud where Western Canada’s interest in Major League Baseball went?
  • Rod addressed a viewer’s question of why the show features so much Blue Bombers talk (rather than Riders) and the panel agreed that the Bombers have been the CFL’s most-newsworthy team all season. This brought up the natural discussion of why Winnipeg’s Andrew Harris was snubbed by local reporters for both the team’s MVP and Top Canadian awards. It was a heated back-and-forth, and brought plenty of reaction from Manitoba viewers.
  • A viewer asked why Jon Ryan would be named the Riders’ Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and Rod pointed to Jon’s stats (a top 3 punting season in CFL history) and the fact he was an adept holder on Brett Lauther’s field goals.
  • TSN NHL Insider Darren Dreger joined the show via video chat from his home office in Toronto to recap the Heritage Classic. Dregs said he foresees the NHL returning at some point because the event was such a success, but would also like to see a stadium built in Halifax which could accommodate another Heritage Classic. He feels Maritimers Sidney Crosby and Nathan McKinnon would be a top draw. Darren also talked about the pressure on Mike Babcock in Toronto, roster juggling with the Edmonton Oilers and if Saskatchewan could ever expect to be home to an NHL team? Dregs thinks that will never happen.
  • The Silver Fox Kelly Remple joined the bunker in Hour 2 and kept the discussion going on several CFL topics. That included the Eskimos’ decision to shutdown QB Trevor Harris for this Saturday’s game at Saskatchewan. Rod thinks it’s a good idea, the Duke thinks it’s a bad one, and the Silver Fox was somewhere in between. Rod feels Esks head coach Jason Maas’s job is on the line and should be allowed to make whatever decision’s best for his team heading into the playoffs.
  • Rider great Keith Shologan (2008-2013) joined the show via video chat from his home in Rochester, AB where he works in the Ag Services Industry. He agreed with Maas’s decision on Trevor Harris and said since the Riders are going to win the game anyway (they need a win to clinch 1st place while it’s meaningless for Edmonton), why play Harris? Sholo also discussed his time in Saskatchewan, how painful it was to leave for Ottawa in the expansion draft, and his time at Central Florida in the NCAA.
  • In honour of show #105 the guys recognized players who’ve worn number-5 in their career and the list included Kevin Glenn, Kent Austin, Denis Potvin, George Brett, Albert Pujols and Joe DiMaggio.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will you be watching Game 7 of the World Series Wednesday night? Just over half of respondents said no.
