Wednesday was a football bonanza on the RP Show! Here are the highlights:

  • With Dupes broadcasting SaskTel’s Pink & White Game Wednesday morning at the SJHL/MJHL Showcase, Global TV’s Taylor Shire joined Rod for The Rollout for Flooring Superstores. They talked about the biggest CFL issues of the day including Matt Nichols being upset the Bombers are targeting Zach Collaros as their #1 QB in 2020, Nick Arbuckle wanting to be paid in the Cody Fajardo-range in free agency, and the Argos and Riders meeting in Touchdown Atlantic in Halifax this summer.
  • The first big name guest was Vegas Raiders LB Derrick Moncrief. Derrick joined the show via video chat from Alabama and talked about signing his first NFL contract with the Raiders. He recapped his meeting with Raiders GM Mike Mayock. Moncrief also talked about his 3 years in Saskatchewan, his love for the people in Riderville and much more. Regarding the Arbuckle news, Derrick figured he should draw $350,000 per season in free agency. Rod asked Moncrief about his Twitter handle @hotboy@showmane and he laughed, saying he’s had the handle since Grade 8 and has never bothered to change it!
  • Alouettes LB Henoc Muamba joined the show next and discussed the resurgence of Montreal football under head coach Khari Jones. Muamba said despite the turmoil around the franchise in his first two seasons there, the locker room stuck together and that’s led to their success. “Coach K lets players be themselves,” Muamba explained.  Henoc also discussed how Chris Jones identified him as a pro prospect when he was just 14-years old at a football camp in Atlantic Canada, and admitted he didn’t even have pro aspirations at the time.
  • BC Lions D-lineman Jonathan Newsome was next up, discussing his new 1-year deal with the Lions. Newsome discussed his pro career which has included stops in Indianapolis, Saskatchewan and Ottawa. He also explained his mantra “Never Ever Worry”, and how it came about. It was a very interesting chat about the stresses of life, and in pro football specifically.
