WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: NIK LEWIS ANNOUNCES NEWS!

Wednesday was Episode 129 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod was joined by CFL receiving king Nik Lewis and Derek “Duke” Meyers for The Rollout for Flooring Superstores. It was a jam-packed segment and Nik had two things to announce: 1) He won’t be returning to the BC Lions as receivers coach in 2020 and 2) He’ll be hosting the RP Show on Thursday as the regular crew travels to Houston for the inaugural VIP Sports Trip.
  • There was a lot of CFL discussion Wednesday and the panel debated Chris Streveler revealing that he doesn’t plan to test free agency, opting to stay in Winnipeg which has become like a second home. Was it a good move or a bad one, to play his cards so early? The crew agreed that you have to admire his honesty, and commitment to the Bombers.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will be the Bombers Week 1 starting QB in 2020 – Zach Collaros, Matt Nichols, Chris Streveler or Other? The majority of respondents said it will be Nichols.
  • With Collaros headed to free agency, Rod mentioned that CFL insiders feel it’s a fait accompli that Zach will sign with the Toronto Argonauts
  • Veteran CFL player and coach Khalil Carter joined the show from the U.S. via video chat for a broad CFL discussion. He gave his take on the coaching carousel, and felt Devone Claybrooks should’ve gotten at least one more season as head coach of the Lions. However he also stated that this is a nomadic lifestyle, and one that all coaches know going in.
  • Former Blue Bomber and Rams receiver Addison Richards joined the bunker to continue the CFL talk. He’s overjoyed for Winnipeg winning the Grey Cup, and figures they’ll be a force in 2020 as well. They also talked about the Rider coaching staff, and the pros and cons of retaining offensive coordinator Stephen McAdoo.
  • Rod mentioned that Damon Allen has let it be known that he’d like to be an offensive coordinator in the CFL and the panel discussed where he might be a good fit.
  • Calgary Dinos head football coach Wayne Harris Jr. joined the show from the Dinos facility to talk about their 27-13 win over Montreal in the Vanier Cup. He said it was a special group, led by QB Adam Sinagra. He also said that parity is always strong in Canada West, but he likes his program’s chances in 2020.
  • Addison, Dupes and Rod discussed the #MeToo movement in sports and how it’s an emerging concern. Addison coaches young players and says he and his fellow coaches strive to make their program a “safe place” for players. Rod said it’s a volatile cocktail in sports, combining an increasing “soft” generation of players with old school coaches.
  • In honour of show #129 the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn #29 in their career and the group included Eddie Davis, Eric Dickerson, Ken Dryden, Mike Palmateer, Nathan McKinnon and Patrik Laine.
