Wednesday was Episode 119 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes were joined by Derek “Duke” Meyers for The Rollout for Flooring Superstore. They discussed the Bombers & Ticats arrival at Grey Cup Week in Calgary. They discussed how football teams travel in ultra-casual dress while hockey teams are still in suits & ties, and the image of both. They talked about Don Cherry’s debut podcast and the Maple Leafs’ sixth straight loss, 4-2 in Vegas on Tuesday. They also anointed the Riders’ Jeremy O’Day as CFL GM of the Year, as voted on by show viewers via Twitter and Facebook. However Duke cast a vote for Winnipeg GM Kyle Walter since he saved the Bombers’ season by acquiring Zach Collaros.
  • CFL playoff analyst Shawn Lemon of the BC Lions joined the show from Orlando, FL. He said the Riders “peaked”, and that’s why they didn’t win the West Final. However he gave a solid endorsement to Cody Fajardo. The Lemonator picked Winnipeg to win the 2019 Grey Cup on Sunday. Shawn will be in Calgary working as an analyst for TSN.
  • RP Show Grey Cup correspondent Mike Abou-Mechrek joined the show from Calgary and said he’s just getting his feet wet regarding Grey Cup festivities. He’ll be at all the events, and reporting live each morning. He’s got the Bombers to win.
  • Rider legend and Canadian Football Hall of Famer Roger Aldag joined the bunker in Hour 2 and explained his disappointment over the Riders losing the West Final. He will NOT be attending the Grey Cup, although he usually does. Asked for a Grey Cup pick, Roger said “I don’t care”.
  • Stampeders offensive tackle Derek Dennis joined the show from Calgary and discussed his team’s semifinal loss to Winnipeg. He said it just wasn’t their day. He thinks Winnipeg will win on Sunday. The Bonecrusher will attend several Grey Cup events on Thursday but will be leaving town for the weekend because it’ll be too bitter of a pill to swallow watching two other teams play in his stadium.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will be the Grey Cup MVP – Zach Collaros, Dane Evans, Andrew Harris or Speedy Banks? The majority of respondents voted in favour of Brandon Banks.
  • Saskatchewan Rush forward Jeff Shattler joined the bunker to talk about the 2019-20 NLL season. The popular veteran lives in Regina and runs the Shattler Lacrosse Academy, which is flourishing. He predicts a strong year for the Rush, and explained why the franchise is so popular in Saskatchewan. He points to the Rush’s game day experience and the fact they’ve been a perennial contender.
  • Sydney Pedersen (Rod’s niece) and Hanna Bailey of the Regina Rebels hockey team joined the show to promote their Hockey Fights Cancer Lavender Game on Saturday versus Weyburn at the Cooperators Arena. Their jerseys will be auctioned off after the game with all proceeds going towards cancer research and to help families affected by cancer.
  • In honour of show #119 the guys recognized players who’ve worn number-19 in their career and the list included Steve Yzerman, Joe Sakic, Jamie Heward, Bo Levi Mitchell, Johnny Unitas and Bryan Trottier.
