WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP: TRADE DEADLINE DAY!

Wednesday was Episode #91 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!

  • On CFL Trade Deadline Day, Rod was joined for The Warmup and all of Hour 1 by pundits Rob Vanstone of the Regina Leader Post and Derek “Duke” Meyers. They previewed what MIGHT go down before the 3:00 pm MT deadline, and also examined the firing of GM Jim Popp in Toronto, and the subsequent hiring of Pinball Clemons. Rod also declared the Edmonton Oilers as winners of the Lucic/Neal trade after Neal’s 4-goal night on Tuesday in New York.
  • R.V. also promoted his new book 100 Things For Rider Fans which will be available in stores in November. It’s a must for Riders fans this Christmas!
  • The guys further discussed the needs of each CFL team with four weeks to go, the plight of the Blue Bombers without Matt Nichols, and previewed this Friday’s Saskatchewan/Calgary match at McMahon Stadium.
  • Winnipeg Jets broadcaster Brian Munz joined the show from Winnipeg to talk about the 2-2 Jets and their recent 4-game road trip which opened the season. Regarding the suspension of veteran defenceman Dustin Byfuglien, Munzie said it’s “status quo”. That’s the official word from the team. Regarding the notion that the Jets have the worst blueline in the NHL, Brian prefers to say the “most inexperienced”. They also talked about the NHL Heritage Classic on Oct. 26 between the Jets and Flames at Mosaic Stadium.
  • Canadian Football Hall of Famer Jim Hopson joined the bunker in Hour 2 to talk about all the latest goings-on in the CFL. He talked about the Trade Deadline – and whether or not it should be moved up a month – as well as the CFL football operations salary cap, the future of Corey Chamblin, and the CFL’s new Jane Mawby Award, to recognize unsung CFL team staff members annually.
  • Hopson and Darren Dupont picked the Riders to win on Friday, while Rod chose the Stampeders.
  • Edmonton broadcaster Bryn Griffits joined the show via video chat to talk Eskimos and Oilers. He couldn’t predict whether the Esks will be active prior to the Trade Deadline but feels head coach Jason Maas will be fired if the team doesn’t have a good showing the rest of the way. He said the fanbase is losing confidence in Maas. As for the Oilers, Bryn said the city is abuzz with their 3-0 start and impressed by the work ethic under new GM Ken Holland and head coach Dave Tippett.
  • The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre daily poll question was: Will there be at least ONE trade at the CFL Trade Deadline? Over 80% of respondents said yes.
  • In honour of show #91, the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn number-91 in their career and the group includes Sergei Fedorov, Butch Goring, Marc Savard, John Tavares, Steve Stamkos, Alexandre Daigle, Joe Sakic (Olympics), Cam Wake and Cookie Gilchrist.

Question _ why was Mosaic stadium Regina built with misaligned seating accessibility? Anyyone know? it’s a mess of pizza like slices thrown here there everywhere, the design is terrible. Those in charge should hire a competent architect in the near immediate future to reconfigure the seating into a true bowl with easy aisle accessibility to the fanbase seat.
