Wednesday was a momentous day for Episode #52 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here’s why!:

  • We cracked 250,000 views on Facebook for the RP Show! To help commemorate the occasion, Canadian Football and Rider Hall of Famer Jim Hopson joined the bunker wearing his #52 retro Rider jersey from the 2010 season! Derek “Duke” Meyers was also in studio during The Warmup as Hopson recalled last week’s CFHOF induction ceremonies in Hamilton, and Saturday’s Hall of Fame Game at Tim Hortons Field.
  • Fans from a variety of CFL teams were watching and peppered Jim with questions regarding their own franchises, which was a treat to witness. The panel also covered this week’s pending sell-out in Toronto for the Argos and Eskimos on Friday Night Football, and the CFL’s new weather protocol.
  • Rider great Neal Hughes will be inducted into the Plaza of Honour next week, and was recently announced as a 2019 inductee into the Regina Sports Hall of Fame. The “Metis Missile” regaled the viewers and listeners with stories of playing for the Thom Trojans, UofR Rams, and of course the Riders. He went deep on what he remembers from the 2013 Grey Cup game as well, where he was a key figure in locking down a 45-23 Rider victory over Hamilton that day.
  • The CFL on TSN’s Milt Stegall joined the show via video chat from his home in Atlanta, GA to offer his analysis of Weeks 9 & 10. Regarding Bomber fans’ impatience over their team’s 26-24 win over Calgary last week, Milt offered “It’s because they know they can’t win a Grey Cup playing that way”. Rod asked Milt what he’s more proud of: his abs or his face? He responded with his face.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL? Lions/Bombers, Eskimos/Argos, Ticats/RedBlacks or Alouettes/Stampeders? The leader at press time was Ticats/RedBlacks.
  • The crew recognized sports figures who wore number-52 in honour of Show #52 and the group includes Ray Lewis, Jim Hopson, Wayne Smith, Craig Rivet and Martin Marincin.
  • Derek Meyers announced the vote for the nomination for the Sask Party in Regina Northeast is September 26, and he’s seeking the nomination.
