With two weeks remaining in the regular season, Edmonton can secure first place in the West, while Winnipeg, Saskatchewan and Calgary all battle for the final playoff positions.
The Canadian Football League’s 2026 regular season is entering its decisive stretch, and Week 20 features four games with significant postseason implications — particularly in the West Division, where three teams are fighting for the final two playoff berths.
The East Division standings are finalized, with the Montreal Alouettes having clinched first place and the Toronto Argonauts locked into second. That leaves the Western race as the primary storyline, with the Edmonton Elks, BC Lions, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Calgary Stampeders all carrying varying degrees of postseason significance into the weekend.
Edmonton enters the week at 12-4, followed by BC at 10-6. Winnipeg and Saskatchewan are both 8-8, while Calgary sits at 8-9. The Elks can clinch first place with a victory or a BC loss, while Winnipeg can secure a playoff berth with a win or a Calgary defeat. Saskatchewan also has a path to qualification this weekend, depending on the results of its game and Winnipeg’s contest.
Toronto Argonauts at Ottawa Redblacks
Friday, October 16 — 7 p.m. ET
Toronto heads to Ottawa looking to finish the regular season strongly after clinching second place in the East and home-field advantage for the Eastern Semi-Final on October 31. The Argonauts are 9-7, while Ottawa enters at 0-16.
Toronto’s passing attack has been a major strength, averaging a league-best 350.6 passing yards per game. The Argonauts generate 408.3 yards of total offence per contest, compared with Ottawa’s 340.1. Defensively, however, Toronto must guard against complacency after securing its postseason position. Ottawa has allowed 37.4 points per game and 468.6 yards per game, both among the league’s worst figures.
Playoff implications: Toronto has nothing left to gain in the standings, while Ottawa is seeking its first victory of the season. The Argonauts may have an opportunity to manage workloads ahead of the playoffs, but maintaining offensive rhythm remains important.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Edmonton Elks
Friday, October 16 — 9:30 p.m. ET
The weekend’s most consequential game could unfold at Commonwealth Stadium, where Winnipeg faces an Edmonton club chasing first place in the West.
The Elks are 12-4 and have averaged 31.1 points and 405 yards of offence per game. Their defence has been particularly effective, allowing just 24.6 points and 341.1 yards per contest. Winnipeg, meanwhile, is 8-8 after a valuable victory over Calgary, with quarterback Zach Collaros providing renewed optimism following an injury absence.
The Blue Bombers’ running game could be pivotal. Brady Oliveira leads the CFL with 1,307 rushing yards, and Winnipeg will need to establish him early to keep Edmonton’s defence from concentrating on Collaros and the passing attack.
Playoff implications: An Edmonton victory, or a BC loss, clinches first place in the West for the Elks and a berth in the Western Final on November 7. Winnipeg clinches a playoff spot with a victory or a Calgary loss.

Montreal Alouettes at Saskatchewan Roughriders
Saturday, October 17 — 3 p.m. ET
Montreal visits Saskatchewan in a matchup between the East Division champions and a Roughriders team desperate to reverse its late-season slide.
The Alouettes are 13-3 and have clinched the Eastern Final hosting position. Their offence leads the league at 36.2 points per game and averages 430.6 yards, including 334.4 through the air. Davis Alexander leads the CFL in passing with 5,257 yards, while Montreal’s balanced attack gives opponents few easy answers.
Saskatchewan, 8-8, has lost four straight games and needs a much sharper performance from quarterback Trevor Harris and a defence that has struggled with coverage assignments. The Roughriders average 401.6 yards of offence but have allowed 28.3 points per game. They cannot afford another slow start against Montreal’s explosive attack.
Playoff implications: Saskatchewan clinches a berth with a victory if Winnipeg loses, or with a victory combined with a Calgary loss. Otherwise, the Roughriders will carry their playoff hopes into the final week. Montreal has already secured its position and may consider resting selected starters.

BC Lions at Calgary Stampeders
Saturday, October 17 — 7 p.m. ET
Calgary faces a must-win situation against a BC club that has secured a playoff berth and is still pursuing the best possible Western Division position.
The Lions enter at 10-6, averaging 432.7 yards per game, the league’s highest total. Their offence produces 323.9 passing yards and 123.3 rushing yards per contest. Defensively, BC has allowed just 26 points per game, making it one of the CFL’s most balanced teams.
Calgary is 8-9 despite averaging 35.3 points per game, second-best in the league. Its biggest problem has been defence, which has surrendered 33.8 points and 418 yards per game. That disparity leaves little margin for error against the Lions.
Playoff implications: Calgary must win to preserve its chances and also needs help from the results elsewhere. A Calgary loss clinches a Winnipeg playoff berth and could help Saskatchewan if the Roughriders win. BC clinches the right to host a playoff game with a victory or a Winnipeg loss.

With the Eastern bracket settled, Week 20 could determine much of the Western postseason picture. Edmonton has a chance to lock down first place, Winnipeg can take a major step toward qualification, and Saskatchewan and Calgary face pressure to deliver when the stakes are highest. The final week will then determine the remaining details before the November 7 division finals and the 113th Grey Cup on November 15 in Calgary.
