PATS HIRE HERAUF AS ASSISTANT COACH

The Regina Pats Hockey Club is proud to announce the addition of Brad Herauf as an assistant coach.

“I would like to thank all the young men I have coached the last three seasons for all their hard work and dedication to our program,” commented Herauf.  “Without them and the success we have had over the last few season, I’m not sure I would have received this opportunity.”

A native of Regina, Herauf played eight years as a professional, ending in 2011 with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers.  He made the jump to coaching as an assistant coach with the Regina Pat Canadians in the 2011-12 season.  The following year, Herauf took the reins as head coach of the Pat C’s.  In his two seasons behind the bench, the team posted a 60-22-3-3 record.  That success culminated in 2014-15 with the Pat C’s capturing their first provincial title since 1999 and bringing home a bronze medal from the Telus Cup National Championship tournament.  Herauf was named the 2015 SMAAAHL Coach of the Year and will be Team Saskatchewan’s head coach at the Western Canada U16 Challenge later this year.

“We are looking forward to having Brad join the team,” said Pats Head Coach and GM John Paddock.  “He’s a talented young coach who understands what we are trying to accomplish and fits in well with our team dynamic.”

The Regina Pats are also pleased to announce the signing of prospects Riley Woods, Gary Haden and Kurtis Chapman to standard WHL player agreements.

Woods was listed by the Pats following 2014 training camp and enjoyed an excellent season in Regina.  He finished seventh in SMAAAHL regular season scoring with 59 points (22G, 37A).  Woods finished tied for first in playoff scoring with 17 points (5G, 12A) and posted 14 points (5G, 9A) at the Telus Cup.

Haden was the Pats’ ninth round bantam pick in 2014.  The Airdrie, AB product put together an impressive rookie season in the AMHL finishing the year with 31 points (15G, 16A) in 33 games.  He then posted 20 points (7G, 13A) in 13 playoff games and 8 points (3G, 5A) in the Telus Cup.

Chapman was the Pats’ seventh round bantam pick in 2013.  The 6’1”, 175 lbs goalie was named the UFA Bisons’ MVP following an incredible playoff run.  Chapman held a 11-2 playoff record with a 1.92 GAA, 0.942 SV% and 3 shutouts.

Wow, great hire! Can't wait for the next few years of hockey. Coaching staff is solid. Can't imagine the behind the scene discussions with this team. Stadium needs to be built. When are we hosting Mem. Cup?

2019 Mem Cup is the next WHL bid year. Would think a new arena announcement would need to come before end of 2015 to be realistic host options. No way it is hosted at Agridome, place is a disgrace.
