REGINA — The 5066 fans in the Brandt Centre Wednesday evening got their money’s worth in a seesaw affair which saw the Kootenay Ice walk off with a 5-4 shootout victory.  With the loss, the Pats saw their three game win streak come to an end.

The Pats built up a 2-0 lead after the first period on lovely goals by Taylor Cooper and Pavel Padakin and upped their lead to 3-1 in the second period thanks to rookie leading scorer Sam Steel’s 16th goal of the season.

The Ice countered with three straight goals of their own to build up a 4-3 lead into the dying seconds.  However with :46 remaining in regulation time, the Pats’ Connor Hobbs beat Kootenay goalie Wyatt Hoflin to tie it and send the game to overtime.

The Ice outshot the Pats 7-2 in the overtime period but nothing was solved and on they went to a shootout.  Pats shooters Taylor Cooper, Adam Brooks, Sam Steel, Jesse Gabrielle and Braden Christoffer were all stymied in the derby and Kootenay’s Jaedon Descheneau scored the eventual winner in round five.

The Ice outshot the Pats 42-36 as Regina goalie Daniel Wapple took the loss making 37 saves.  Regina was 0/3 on the powerplay and 2/2 killing penalties.

Regina (33-19-4-4) will try to get back in the win column Friday when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7:00 on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35).  The game will also be shown live on Access 7.

I was one of the 5,066 and was very impressed with the atmosphere at the game. The days of grumpy old men sitting in their seats with arms crossed and frowns on faces are over .

Honestly, the paid attendance is what it is. Maybe if the season ticket holders spent more energy attending games in their seats and less time complaining about what it is going to cost, you'd feel less hesitant about the attendance number

I guarantee the #gamechangers employ someone to check this blog and make blindly positive comments. The first comment is pure sheep.

I agree with the number 1 poster. The atmosphere isn't going to change overnight but it definitely is improving. The increase in season ticket prices are hard to accept but I'll still buy them.

These new owners are quite the story. They get the Pats at a good deal (7.5 Million for a Major Junior franchise is below Market Value). They build a giant eyesore monument to themselves in the score clock and then punish anyone loyal to the previous owners with an unrealistic jump in ticket prices. I'm sure the sponsors that loyally supported the previous owners are about to get a rude financial awakening too. These guys are trying to make hay while the sun shines, have a good run in two years and then sell The Pats again for around 18… Read more »

Next year, the new pricing, there is no discount of a youth so its back to grumpy old men and the morgue atmosphere. Enjoy because this Season ticket holder of 18 years will not be there.

Agree with the poster who says the Pats are nothing more than a flip for the owners. Buy low, make improvements, sell high. It will be just like the Chilliwack Bruins/Victoria Royals situation. Support the Pats so the #Gamechangers can make a buck selling the team to True North in Winnipeg for $20 mil.

HAWR, so anyone who isn't just happily singing 'Everything is awesome' in relation to the Pats is a cry baby? I get that the new owners all come from walks of life where people kiss their backsides and revere them, but when one owns a high profile sports franchise, questions are going to be asked.

haha hilarious. eventually ticket prices have to rise. when you make improvements thats when the tickets will have to rise. people want a better atmosphere but at the same price. are the idiots on here implying that they still want the old crappy atmosphere that the Parkers put on? it was terrible. If you are so loyal go hang out at sports clips all day and stop attending games. The new owners have come in and changed the atmosphere and are putting out an amazing product to boot. all these whiners on here Roddy, honestly. How can you make things… Read more »

You guys who think the ownership group is in this to make money need to give your heads a shake. Their pockets are plenty deep and they have a genuine interest in making the Pats a world class junior hockey organization. The atmosphere is certainly better thanks to the score clock. If less people come to the games due to higher ticket prices, then maybe what they are doing there will end up hurting them Time will tell. Bottom line is if they put a good product on the ice, people will come. Watching the current group of 16-18 year… Read more »

ARHM my friend you are a whiner and I hate whiners. The Pats are in good hands and will, as always, continue onwards into the future with or without you. Ask your silly questions, who cares. If the team on the ice is performing well now and in the future what more could we ask for. Great people are running the show for the Pats, much like the good folk over yonder calling the shots at the Rider office.

Can't wait for the read tomorrow morning Rod. Will be an interesting off season to see how camp shapes up with all the young talent available. Fans have the right to make their feelings known to the ownership and the ownership has certainly made it available for them to do so with the Town Hall meetings, etc. These owners aren't dummies so I am sure they know what they are doing and what the consequences (positive or negative) may be. Hope the Pats can keep up the effort going through to the playoffs but will have their hands full with… Read more »

The Pats are/were a fixer-upper and if the new owners flip for more money in a few years, well that's free enterprise for you.

I'm not blown away by the game atmosphere, but things seem better and I feel good about the change.

The person complaining that the clock is an eyesore must be from Moose Jaw. The same type that said they didnt need a new rink and now look what they have and the excitement that was brought to their town. Now we have great things happening here and you have nothing better to complain about then the clock. Unbelievable!
