DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings have hired Tony Granato as an assistant coach.

Granato was an assistant for the Pittsburgh Penguins for the last five seasons, and he was also part of Team USA’s staff at the 2014 Olympics. Granato also has been a head coach with the Colorado Avalanche.

Granato played 773 games with the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks, totalling 248 goals and 244 assists in 13 seasons from 1988 through 2001.

The Red Wings announced the move on Tuesday.

Tom Renney, a Detroit assistant the last two seasons, has been hired as president and chief executive officer of Hockey Canada.

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oilers agreed to terms on one-year contracts with forwards Tyler Pitlick and Curtis Hamilton on Tuesday.

Pitlick, 22, played in 10 games with the Oilers last season, registering his first career NHL goal on Oct. 26th against the Phoenix Coyotes. He also appeared in 39 games for the American Hockey League’s Oklahoma City Barons in 2013-14, scoring eight goals with 14 assists and 10 penalty minutes.

Pitlick was selected by Edmonton in the second round of the 2010 NHL draft.

Hamilton, 22, has 36 points (18 goals and 18 assists), along with 41 penalty minutes in 145 career AHL games. He was also drafted by Edmonton in the second round of the ’10 draft.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – The New York Islanders agreed to terms with centre Casey Cizikas and defenceman Calvin de Haan on Tuesday.

Cizikas, 23, got a two-year contract. He scored six goals and 10 assists last season, his second full year with the club. In 2013, he had a game-winning goal in a playoff series against Pittsburgh.

The 23-year-old de Haan received a three-year deal. He scored three goals and had 13 assists in 51 games as a rookie, and showed solid improvement throughout the season.

He began the 2013-14 season with Bridgeport of the AHL before earning a call-up to the Islanders on Nov. 28.

The Islanders selected de Haan in the first round, 12th overall, of the 2009 NHL draft.
