REGINA — The Regina Pats were denied a fourth consecutive victory Friday night, falling 6-1 to the visiting Kootenay Ice in the Brandt Centre.

Perhaps it was nerves due to playing on national TV on home ice, but the Pats came out tentative in the opening period. They trailed 1-0 after one thanks to Kootenay’s Zach McPhee.

The Ice upped their lead to 3-0 in the middle frame on goals by Luke Philp and Jaedon Deschenau. Regina eventually came to life midway through the second period and forward Dryden Hunt got the Pats on the board at 12:41 on the powerplay.

However Kootenay slammed the door in the third, scoring three unanswered goals from Austin Vetterl, Sam Reinhart and Ryan Chynoweth to skate off with a 6-1 triumph.

Our Pack The Dome campaign fell short but the 4721 in attendance made for a respectable crowd. Capacity is 6200.

Regina was outshot 32-23 while going 1/2 on the powerplay and 1/3 killing penalties. Dawson MacAuley took the loss making 26 saves.

The Pats (23-18-5) visit the Prince Albert Raiders Saturday night at 7:00 on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35 pm).

The Kooteny Ice looked like a team, whereas the Pats looked like a bunch of individuals, ie: Chandler Stephenson.

Nothing like laying a egg on national TV. Our defense was horrible. They were so weak and got caught up ice so many times. Goaltending wasn't that bad, maybe the 2nd goal he would want back. But he made several key saves on break aways. #4 and #44 were the worst players on the ice, they seems scared to take the body in front of the net, and were unable to move the Ice players from banging in rebounds. Last night proved to me that our mascot needs to change. I know everyone loves K9 but how does he help… Read more »

Comment about getting the fans into the game, the rink needs a centre clock again. It can been seen by all spectators and messages on the clock can pump up the crowd. Although a year back a Regina Councillor told me that most major city rinks are going without centre clocks that is why Regina does not have one (yah right).

I think the next time you see that many fans in the rink to watch the Pats again will be on a “guaranteed win night” promotion. That way fans will get 2 games for the price of 1

Isn't it the product on the ice job to get the crowd into it?

If they bring back the scoreboard it will be at the expense of many concerts and shows is what I was told.

Pretty embarrassing for Regina on national television , I saw nothing but rows of empty seats in the lower bowl. It honestly looked like 2,000 fans , not 4,700 they announced.

Cameron put it quite right in the LP when he said it wasn't "pack the dome" night it was "stink out the dome" night. His team stunk the joint out. They have a habit of doing that when big crowds come out to see them. All that not selling out meant was that 1500 additional people didn't have to waste money to watch that debacle of a game. I guess fans across the country got to see what we've seen too much of this year. If the players can't lay it on the line at home with a chance to… Read more »

They need to hire an energy guy like Crazy George. Someone who wanders around the building with a little drum or cow bell etc. Between stoppages he can perform. I'm betting there are a lot of guys wanting to do something like that. Call him the Mad Pat!

The next time I hear a Rider fan complain about the attendance in other Canadian parks, I will remind them how they can't fill a 6000 seat arena for a nationally televised hockey game. Different sport but same Yappers!

Regina is a Riders only town, plain and simple! Just like Toronto is a Maple Leafs town only.

As a long timer, I can tell you that regina is as much a Pats town as a rider town. The current ownership has allowed the Riders to get traction by disconnecting with fans. For the first ten years, the Parker admin let their guys run wild and it turned off the younger generation. That generation has kids today. Forty year old dads and moms remember the antics back in the 90s and early 2000s. Social media has caused the team to clean up, but there are still a lot of hard feelings. Add to that the unpopularity of Brent… Read more »
