FRIDAY SHOW RECAP
Friday was Episode #25 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod, Dupes and Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch kicked off the show with The Warmup, discussing Montreal’s 36-29 home victory over Hamilton on Thursday night. The panel agreed that the outcome was the best possible for the CFL (having the languishing Alouettes franchise win its home-opener) and how good the condensed crowd looked on TV. Upper sections of Percival Molson Stadium were tarped off creating a more intimate atmosphere.
- They touched on Friday’s marquee game between the Blue Bombers and RedBlacks in Ottawa, which is a clash of 2-0 teams. 5:30 pm on TSN.
- Stampeders blogger Ryan Ballantine of Horsemen Radio joined the bunker to talk about Canada’s Game of the Week, Calgary at Saskatchewan, on Saturday night. Ballantine said Bo Levi Mitchell going to the 6-game Injured List is a bout of adversity for the Stamps, but he has faith in back-up Nick Arbuckle.
- That discussion spawned Friday’s Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision poll question: “Who will win the battle of the back-ups?” 89% of respondents felt Saskatchewan’s Cody Fajardo will out-duel Arbuckle.
- TSN’s Dave Naylor joined the program via video chat and talked about a potential new ownership group of the Alouettes. He also discussed the Atlantic Schooners situation, saying the project is not dead. In fact Naylor said the ownership group is working hard behind-the-scenes and that the prevailing feeling is that, “If it takes longer to do it right, so be it”.
- Naylor’s comments played in well with the story by the Canadian Press’s Dan Ralph that the Schooners will begin play in 2021 with Moncton as their homebase.
- The group wrapped up the show with John Frenzy’s much-anticipated thoughts on New Gainer. The iconic broadcaster said “I think he’s ugly. He scares me. The eyes are bad!”
- We all anxiously await the appearance on New Gainer at Saturday’s game!
- St. Louis Blues stars Jaden Schwartz and Tyler Bozak of Saskatchewan will have the Stanley Cup at Saturday night’s Rider game. The trophy will be featured during the first TV timeout.
- Don’t forget to join The Rod Pedersen Show at the Canadian Forces Regina Rifles Tailgate Party on Saturday from 5:00-8:00 at the Regina Armoury (across the street from Mosaic Stadium). We’ll be on location with show swag as well as beer gardens, face painting, family activities and more!
