THURSDAY SHOW RECAP
Thursday’s show was Episode #34 of The Rod Pedersen Show. As usual, it was star-studded! Here are the highlights.
- Rod and Dupes were joined in the bunker for The Warmup by The Silver Fox, Kelly Remple. The crew bantied about their favourite all-time players who wore #34. The easiest was of course Rider legend George Reed. Rod mentioned Shaquille O’Neal while Producer Clark tabbed Auston Mathews.
- With Week 6 in the CFL opening Thursday night with Toronto at Calgary, Rod talked about the buzz among Calgary football types that the Stampeders are leaving Bo Levi Mitchell on the 6-game Injured List to save salary and are getting a good look at back-up Nick Arbuckle (who will start this 3rd straight game in BLM’s absence). Rod mentioned that if the Stamps were to move on from Mitchell, would Saskatchewan make a play for him via trade? The Riders made a pitch to BLM in free agency, offering a rumoured deal around $700,000 per season. Acquiring Mitchell would certainly fortify the Riders in an effort to contend in 2020 when Mosaic Stadium hosts the Grey Cup.
- That spawned the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre Poll question: Should the Riders trade for Bo Levi Mitchell? The majority of respondents said no, that BLM is too expensive.
- RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith and Leader Post columnist Rob Vanstone appeared in the bunker to look at the CFL’s Week 6 games and preview the Lions/Riders clash Saturday at Mosaic Stadium. They agreed a split for the Riders would be preferred, but you can’t win them both without winning the next one.
- Rider great Andy Fantuz joined the show via video chat from his gym in Southern Ontario and discussed a wide range of topics. He’s keeping close tabs on the CFL, plus his alma mater at Western Ontario. Regarding his favourite moment during his time with the Roughriders, Fantuz said it was all the interactions with the fans rather than any on-field moments.
- RP Show CFL/NFL analyst Tori Gurley joined the show via video chat from Pearson International Airport in Toronto where he’s headed to South Carolina to attend training camp with the Game Cocks. He’ll also be sitting in on Cleveland Browns training camp, one of his former NFL teams.
- Gurley offered an assessment on the first 6 weeks in the CFL season and offered a harsh assessment of the Toronto Argonauts. He said the players haven’t shown up so far this season, and that they might not win a game!
- Friday’s show will feature more CFL guests as well as Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch teeing up the Lions/Riders clash.
