FRIDAY SHOW RECAP
Friday’s show was Episode #40 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!
- Friday’s show was a bonanza for CFL fans. Blue Bombers alum Addison Richards and Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch joined Rod in the bunker for The Warmup, recapping Thursday night’s doubleheader in the CFL. They went deep on “the decision” by RedBlacks head coach Rick Campbell which may have cost his team the game against Calgary (a 17-16 Stampeders win), and examined Edmonton’s 26-0 home victory over Toronto.
- The panel also previewed the Friday Night Football clash between the 5-0 Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the 4-1 Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Tim Hortons Field. Addison predicted a double digit win by the Bombers.
- With the heat rising on some CFL head coaches, the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will there be a coach firing by Labour Day in the CFL? The resounding result was “yes”
- Former Riders President Jim Hopson made his 4th appearance on the show, and covered a wide range of topics. Hoppy thinks the coach under the most pressure might by Rick Campbell, given the fact his team is on a 4-game losing streak after Thursday night.
- Regarding the controversies involving Gainer The Gopher, Jim was asked by a viewer how he would’ve handled it as club President. “Being a traditionalist, I wouldn’t have changed Gainer’s outfit in the first place,” Hopson offered.
- Former Rider, Eskimo and Lion LB Otha Foster joined the show via video chat. He’s succeeding in Life After Football, establishing a company in the USA to care for disabled war veterans. However the 2015 Grey Cup champ said he’s staying in shape, and would welcome an opportunity with a CFL team. Otha said the problem for he and other vets of his stature is the CFL salary cap and how teams are favouring high-priced QBs and going with cheaper rookie DBs.
- In honour of show #40, the tradition of recognizing sports figures who’ve worn number-40 continued. The group includes former Rider Mel Beckett, Pat Tillman, Henrik Zetterberg, Andre Racicot, Gayle Sayers and Rick Sutcliffe.
- Make plans to attend the inaugural RP Show Watch Party at 5:00 pm Saturday for the Riders and Lions at Baller’s Rec Room on Dewdney Ave. All fans of the show are welcome to attend, and mingle with show personalities!
- We’re off until Monday’s show when we’ll recap the Riders-Lions and Bombers-Ticats games. Guests include Mike Abou-Mechrek, Ivan Gutfriend, Obby Khan and Derek Dennis. We’ll see you at 10:00 am MT on Monday on Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!
lets have the inside scoop on the riders canning their defensive line coach. What is going on with that move?? Dig into it, tell us what is actually going on
I agree with Olaf. When a positional coach is given the star like talent the Riders have on the D-Line. There is no reason that the D-line should not have dominated each of the first 5 games. Sure Charleston stepped up last game. But where is Zack and Micha. No one would know the Riders D-Tackles are top Tackles in the league. I’m starting to wonder if this is also one of the reasons Willy Jefferson left. Last year Willy had the ear of Chris Jones. Willy knew that the new Coach was either going to be another teams OC.… Read more »
Well Addison Richards… Your Bombers were exposed. They are not this big bad team you think they are. In one way Winnipeg was lucky last evening. Had Masoli not gone down himself after 10 minutes in the 1st Qtr. I would suggest a 2019 spanking was at hand. Also losing to a second string back up QB sure looks bad on the Bombers. Some of us felt the Bombers Defensive backs were a weakness on the team. As well; Matt Nichols wasn’t able to loft in or throw his floaters. With Hamilton’s tight coverage, Matt was forced to be much… Read more »
