Tuesday’s show was Episode #42 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup and Rod mentioned that he had the show mapped out for the day, planning to discuss CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie’s tough interview on CTV Atlantic where he’d hoped to promote Touchdown Atlantic and the Atlantic Schooners. That’s UNTIL Tuesday morning’s news came down that Regina product Chris Kunitz is retiring after 15 NHL seasons and joining the Chicago Blackhawks hockey operations staff.
  • That spawned the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question of: Who is Regina’s greatest all-time athlete? Given that Twitter only allows 4 options, the group was whittled down to Ryan Getzlaf, Chris Kunitz, Mark McMorris and Jon Ryan. Rod noted how tough it was to eliminate icons like Jordan Eberle, Chris Getzlaf, Alan Ford, Neal Hughes, Bob Turner and Terry Harper, and the reasons why. Voters went nuts on the poll, and it became a dead heat between Getzlaf and McMorris.
  • Riders/Stamps/Ticats alum Marshall Hamilton joined the bunker for CFL talk and the panel discussed how the Riders’ sweep of the BC Lions has set them up nicely, and that the Roughriders are ahead of the pace they’d predicted for this season. And with all the injuries mounting for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the Riders are in good shape for a 3rd win in a row when the Ticats and Riders collide Thursday night at Mosaic Stadium.
  • BC Lions podcaster Brian Wawryshyn from the Lions Den Podcast joined the show from Vancouver and pretty much lambasted the 1-6 Lions. However he said Devone Claybrooks should not shoulder all the blame, and Brian cocked his hat sideways in support of the rookie head coach. Brian also said that Duron Carter is NOT a cancer in the Lions locker room, and that he’s well-liked by his teammates and fans.
  • Maple Leafs reporter Paul Hendrick from Leafs TV joined the show to discuss the goings-on in Leafs Nation this summer. He said the contentious William Nylander negotiations from last summer shouldn’t taint this year’s contract situation with Mitch Marner. However he feels the holdout could carry through training camp. Hendrick also stated he loves talking Leafs in Western Canada and how the team enjoys boisterous support in road games in Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton but NOT Vancouver!
  • In honour of show #42, the crew recognized sports figures who wore number 42 during their careers and the list included Tyler Bozak, Bernie Federko, Eddie Lowe, Graig Newman, Anton McKenzie, Dan Kepley, Ronnie Lott, Jackie Robinson, Mariano Rivera and James Worthy.
  • The show is available for viewing NOW on our Facebook page or on the PODCAST page on this website. Wednesday’s show includes visits from Derek “Duke” Meyers, Rob Vanstone, RP Show NFL/CFL analyst Tori Gurley and Sportsnet 650 Vancouver’s Andrew Walker.
  • See you Wednesday at 10:00 am MT on Facebook Live and Listen Live here at RodPedersen.com!
