TUESDAY SHOW RECAP
Tuesday’s show was Episode #75 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes were in the bunker for The Warmup. They covered the day’s hottest sports topics including TSN’s ranking of the Top 7 most valuable legs in the CFL and how they disagreed with the list (the Riders’ Brett Lauther and Jon Ryan were excluded from the list), the 25-game suspension to Yorkton Terriers player Greg Mulhall by the SJHL, Cleveland’s 23-3 Monday Night Football win over the NY Jets, and Monday’s NHL preseason action. Darren also recapped his weekend visit to San Francisco/Oakland.
- Sportsnet 650 Vancouver’s Andrew Walker joined the show via video chat to discuss the Canucks signing of Brock Boeser, the 2-10 BC Lions, and more.
- Tuesday’s panel included visits from Rider Hall of Famer and NFL veteran Andrew Greene and Derek “Duke” Meyers. They discussed the lawsuits against the WHL from former players contending junior hockey players should be considered minimum wage workers. That led to the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question on that topic. The vast majority of respondents said “no”.
- The conversation drifted to the same argument for NCAA athletes and as ‘Drew Greene contended, NCAA football is bigger business than the NFL in some cases. Greene, an Indiana University alum, feels a good chunk of that money should be disseminated to ALL NCAA athletes in all athletic programs (not just the ones who enjoy huge gate receipts and TV revenue).
- CFL.ca writer and Fantasy Expert Jeff Krever joined the show via video chat from Toronto to discuss Week 15 in the CFL and the status of Edmonton QB Trevor Harris. He feels back-up Logan Kilgore will start Friday’s home game versus Hamilton. Jeff also discussed how it important it was for the BC Lions to win at home in Week 14 against Ottawa.
- Andrew Greene is the Saskatchewan spokesman for the Tackle Radon movement, and how prairie residents should test their home for dangerous radon gas. He donated an autographed football from himself and Adam Bighill as well as a home radon detection kit to a lucky viewer. Eric Ellis of Herbert, SK won the prize.
- In honour of show #75, the guys recognized players who’ve worn number-75 in their careers. The list includes Vince Wilford, “Mean” Joe Greene, Levi Steinhauer, Howie Long, Ryan Reaves, Colton Orr and Hal Gil.
- Rod announced RP Show analytics for viewers and listeners of the show daily. Here are the top cities for audience in order: 1) Regina 2) Saskatoon 3) Calgary 4) Winnipeg 5) Edmonton 6) Montreal 7) Toronto 8) Hamilton 9) Moose Jaw 10) Ottawa 11) Prince Albert 12) Yorkton 13) Estevan 14) Houston 15) Vancouver 16) Medicine Hat 17) Weyburn 18) Swift Current 19) Red Deer 20) Halifax 21) Lethbridge 22) Surrey 23) Kelowna 24) Kelowna 25) Lloydminster 26) Victoria 27) Quebec City 28) Grande Prairie 29) Kindersley 30) North Battleford. 35% of the viewers are female and half are aged 18-35.
- Rod used these analytics to explain why they’ve held off on the WHL and SJHL banter despite the fact it’s opening week for both leagues. The stats clearly show that this is a national program. However it’s clear that junior hockey fans are starving for coverage.
