WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP
It was a whole lotta football talk – plus baseball – on Episode 180 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores in which they outlined the day’s show topics: 1) The XFL vs CFL debate and proposed playoff format change, 2) La Ronge goalie Liam McGarva being suspended 30 days for abuse of an official, 3) Raiders beating the Pats 5-2 & Dupes winning the bet over Rod, 4) Scotties in Moose Jaw, 5) Tuesday being our most-watched show yet, 6) Astros sign-stealing scandal, 7) More Vegas stories.
- BC Lions WR Bryan Burnham joined the show from Tulsa, OK to discuss his off-season and the wild moves in CFL free agency. He fielded many questions from viewers and said he doesn’t celebrate after TDs because he expects to be in the end zone and flamboyancy isn’t his style. A viewer from Calgary said Burnham is his daughter’s favourite player and Bryan offered a shoutout on air. Burnham gained a lot of fans with his easy-going, down-to-earth nature. Asked if he’d ever play for Saskatchewan, Burnham said he’s proud to be a career BC Lion but you never know where this game will take you.
- News broke during the show that Chris Jones is “out” with the Cleveland Browns, courtesy a report from Arash Madani. The guys debated Jones’ future over the rest of the show, and followed it up with Justin Dunk’s report that Jones will be shuffled to the Browns front office.
- Rider great Sean Lucas (LB, 2006-2011) joined the show via video chat from Kelowna, looking no different from his playing days. He now works in the Real Estate and Wine & Spirits fields, traveling throughout Western Canada. He talked about the famed linebacking trio of Lucas, Reggie Hunt and Maurice Lloyd saying the key element to their success was trust. He also talked about his first impressions of Regina way back in 2006 and never imagined that his life would go on this path but it’s been great!
- Free agent OT Thaddeus Coleman joined the show from Edmonton where he discussed his contract status. He’s spent the past 4 seasons with the Roughriders and won a Grey Cup with the Eskimos before that. The 6’7″ giant has missed only 1 game the past 4 years and Rod asked why. Thad said he takes extra good care of his body, but also has a high pain tolerance. Regarding free agency, he said he hasn’t had any CFL offers to his liking and that “The XFL is looking pretty good right now”. Thad explained why the XFL is attractive to CFL vets, primarily because it’s a chance to play at home. It was a great interview.
- Regina Red Sox President and WCBL Vice-President Bernie Eiswirth joined the bunker to discuss the Astros sign-stealing scandal. He said the Astros’ tactics on the way to the 2017 World Series title were “over the line” and that if he were in charge of MLB, the Astros would be stripped of their championship. He said they did that exact thing with the 2009 Melville Millionaires for their use of an illegal player.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should the CFL change its playoff format to 1-6 formula rather than East-West? 57% of respondents said yes.

- See you at 10 am Thursday on Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive! Guests include Jermain Franklin, Andrew Walker, Devin Heroux and Chris Lewgood.
Thaddeus Coleman bang on with his XFL opinion and you heard here first courtesy of The RODPEDERSEN Show.
I dont personally know Bryan Burnham but he seems to be a very humble man who has his life priorities set.
The exciting C.J. Gable would be a very nice addition to the Saskatchewan Roughriders with a hope of winning a Grey Cup Championship this year. A high probability he would replace the slow W Powell who is better suited to the REDBLACKS game in Ottawa.
